I did put a 2 in mattress topper on mine. don't know that I needed it, but my wife likes them.

We had some initial concerns about the split mattress and comfort. After having spent about 12 nights on the coach since mid December, I can say that you shouldn't worry. It is (for us) quite comfy. Some have added toppers, but we don't find anything other than a mattress pad necessary.

There are many more things to worry about, IMHO, the mattress is not one of them.
