Anyone know of a good 2 bike rack for the ladder on back?
Hello,
We have a 2401 Forester and while we have a 2-bike rack with tire tray mounts for the receiver, when pulling the boat, I think we're going to need a 2-bike rack for the ladder?
Does anyone have one they'd recommend, or at least know of one that we should look at?
Thanks!!
Bogey

I looked at those and thought I was really on to something, but rather than order it online, we went to a large trailer sales/service business and the guy did the "math" for us, and said that it would not meet the weight requirement.
Evidently, even a small extension such as the one you listed, reduces your tow capacity by 1/3 and since we only have a 4,200 pound towing capacity to begin with, it leaves us a couple of hundred pounds off, which I honestly don't believe would be an issue......but I don't want to find out either
Thanks anyway!!

Probably wouldn't work with a platform mount bike rack anyway. I'm guessing the LP tanks would be in the way.

If it's there, I can't see it? But then I'm usually in the dark! Actually, the more I read on ladder racks on other forums, I'm thinking we won't go that way... now I'm wondering about a front hitch? Not sure how much $$$ that would be, vision out the front, etc...?

I like this unit for the ease of use and mounting. The unit is made by SURCO model number 501BR and available on Etrailer. com. It can be moved out of the way to allow access to the roof which I like.

OK, that really does look perfect - I just wish I knew for sure if we could pull it off w/o any issues. Since our MH is only 24' long, it wouldn't get the bounce that it would on the back of something longer, but I just don't know
We only need this when we pull the boat, otherwise we'd be using our hitch carrier.
Thanks!

The links for additional photos don't work. If you'd like to see the additional pics, PM me and I'll send them.

Ladder Mount RV Bike Rack
I purchased the Swagman #80630 last August. It works excellent. I do however use additional velcro straps to hole both the rack and bike to the rack.
Very well constructed
RV Ladder Bike Rack - Swagman
I paid $73.00 for it on ebay
I'm very happy with it.

Bike rack
IMHO ...... DO NOT hang bikes from the ladder. Although a good ladder is designed to accept some weight, it is not designed to deal with the side to side torque that will occur when you hang bikes from the ladder. This torque will open up the seals around the mounting screws holding the ladder. Over time, you will discover water entry into the wall panel...not a good thing. Find another way.

Why is FR selling them as an option? I could have ordered one with my unit. Decided not to, could buy the same ladder locally for less, and an even lower price on Amazon.

It looks like FR might actually sell them, so I'll check that out.
As for putting them in the boat, that would be a little like shoving 2 bikes into the back of a nice car that you'd rather not scratch up or tear the leather on I have thought of trying to remove the boat seats and building a wooden rack that will keep the bikes upright and stable, but at some point it's just not worth it.
