Try setting your thermostat on a higher temp than the ambient air. The unit should start up after a few min then shut down completely. After a couple of minutes, the fan should start up for an air sample but the compressor should not. The sampling will continue until the ambient temp falls below the set temp. Then the compressor will restart. After it builds heat, the fan will restart. and so on and so on

I do but it’s worthless.

from following this forum it seems that Atwood is the only manufacturer with the stupid annoying "Air sampling". I was taught that that was the thermostat's job. A good AC Tech can fix that problem. If you bribe him with enough beers to work on an RV.

While everyone complains to high heaven that Atwood AC's no longer stop airflow from the ducts when the thermostat is satisfied, I prefer the new mode of operation over the old timer way of doing business. It was not the best then and was never ever the best for comfort. Time to get with the program folks and enjoy new modern comfort systems.

To get with the program is why Dometic/Atwood has redesigned the bottom end.
I guess some folks prefer that it work correctly and not just change for the sake of change. I’ve been running my fan on low to circulate the air since the 1970’s. It’s not an epiphany. There are two issues with the 1511 that are on the table. One is the “rain” from the bottom end and the other is the heat pump not using the thermostat sensor to determine demand. Periodic running of the fan to “sample” air is not in the program.

Thumbs up Atwood AC unit on Forester

My Atwood AC unit installed on Forester 2401R behaves the same way, i.e. fan runs all the time, only compressor cycles (and fan speeds change but never shuts off), so evidently "works as designed". Its not a problem currently because the low dull fan noise acts like a white noise generator in noisy campgrounds. However, I expect the fan to wear out prematurely, based on my 40 years of experience in the computer industry- fans don't last very long if they run all the time.

Rain on the bottom end

Ah Duckogram reminded me of the rain on the bottom end issue- now that was a definite problem. For us at least the solution was simple- the thin plastic filter was clogged. When I washed it out it runs fine and no more rain. I think when it gets clogged the fan draws too much air over the condensation pan so it comes into the RV though the grill, rather than running to the external drip channels.

Angry

my issue is with the heat pump only running 2 minutes at a time.....one of my sensors is wired wrong.....they won't provide a schematic so that the technician can figure out which one is miswired as there are 4 of them..

Some interesting discussion on Dometic crazy thermostat operation:

http://www.forestriverforums.com/for...es-118846.html
I had a weird cycling issue with my Dometic 15K A/C unit. At the FROG rally two weeks ago, the Dometic service guys showed up, I explained the situation to them. He popped the cover off the thermostat and did a “reset”. We then ran the furnace a/c thru several cycles and the issue was gone...like has been mentioned earlier, thermostat is a microprocessor and needs reboot once in a while...now I know...

BUT: Do you now know how to do the reboot yourself?

And if so, can you inform the rest of us?

Also, what is the make/model of the T-stat?

I’m not near my rig until next Tuesday, currently out of state. I’ll try and include a pix of it which should help until I can get the model number.

To reboot it, hold the mode button (on the left, looking at it) and the temp UP button together for 3 - 5 seconds until the double dash’s appear - - that will reset the thermostat to the factory defaults. You can then tap the mode button and select each mode and change the value for temp for each if you want them different than the defaults. I don’t know if this is the same t-stat they use for Atwood’s but it’s what they used on my Dometic..

Sorry the pix isn’t the best...
