First, there are a ton of posts on this subject - you should use the search box in the upper right corner and prepare to spend a couple of hours reading everyone's experience and opinions.
You'll find everything from a guy who rigged one up using a wireless home security camera to units that are "Cadillacs".
The distance between the antenna on the camera and the antenna on the monitor has been "troublesome" for a few posters, but it seems that most problems were solved using antenna "extenders" - another antenna with a longer cable so that the antenna can be moved forward closer to the monitor.
These extenders are available for most units - but a lot of them have magnetic mounts - not much help if you have a fiberglass/aluminum rig (the magnet won't stick to either one of them).
I have a short bed crew cab and a short (31 ft) trailer, so I think my antennas are closer than most people.
Some people also had problems with aluminum body Fords apparently interfering with the signal.
Another somewhat common theme was losing the signal intermittently at highway speed.
I am certainly not an expert, but I am somewhat of a tightwad - I don't need a Cadillac, but I want something that works.
Please note that there are countless other units/brands out there - following are those that I personally considered.
I didn't look at hard-wired units - it just seemed to me like wireless was the way to go … I did a ton of research, including carefully reading reviews on the following products (in no particular order):

I went with the FHD for two main reasons:
1) It had the best overall rating
2) It comes with two cameras
I plan on using one to see my kingpin and receiver (I have a 5th wheel). Without it I have to remove the center headrest in the back seat, and I can't have my fold-up/flip-up tonneau cover on the truck without a camera - it blocks my view of the receiver plate.
In your case you may be able to use the 2nd camera as a dash cam.
Most, if not all of these units have the ability to record.
I think (again, Im new), but I think that unless you have a Furion mount and buy a Furion camera you're going to need to make some modifications. In my case it was just a matter of fishing the factory Furion wires out from behind the mount and mounting my camera above the factory mount.
(this might be a good thing since it gets the camera antenna up a little higher)
Pairing the camera to the monitor was 100% automatic - but I haven't wired the second camera in yet, so I can't speak to that aspect.
Please note that I have not tested this unit at highway speed as of yet - simply haven't had the chance with the holidays and everything.
I hope this helps.
Good luck to you, and have a Merry Christmas!!!
