Backup camera power question

My Forester came with backup/ side cameras, a remote and is viewed from rear view mirror monitor. But to use the remote or power ON button, I must have the ignition on. A salesman (not my dealer)said I could use the remote to scan around the MH while camped. Should mine have been wired directly to the fuse panel like the Jensen Nav radio? Otherwise, what's the point of the remote if I have to be in the driver's seat with the engine running?

Good question...I'd like to hear the answer to this too.

Our "W" has the optional side cameras as well. The monitor only displays when I'm in reverse or have a turn signal activated. With the remote I can turn on my rear camera any time, without being in reverse gear, and leave it on....

Mine didn't come with a remote but ignition has to be on but there is a button on monitor to change to any camera you choose but the reverse and signals over ride while turning or backing but I have a sunseeker not a forester

I have the side/rear cameras on mine with the remote, which I've never used and can confirm that the ignition key has to at least be on accessory to power up the cameras. Although I also realize we have different chassis as well, if that matters.

DukeBoone-thanks, I'm going to go and try it on accessory right now as we are camping at the beach.
Nope, no power to the cameras.

I wanted to know how to turn my rear view camera on when I started the vehicle. Turn and reverse work by themselves as needed, but I have to push the power switch to use it as a rear view "mirror". I found the manufacturer's website for the system on my Forester which is probably the same as yours.

RVS-770619N | Backup Camera System with 7" Replacement Mirror Monitor | Rear View Safety

They have the installation instructions available on that page which have the wiring diagram in them. I found out how to power mine on as a "mirror" when I start the vehicle. I'm sure yours would be a simple fix by changing the power lead from a keyed hot circuit to an always hot circuit.

Looks like I may have spoken a little out of turn. I stopped by by storage garage today and confirmed that I have to turn the key over "two clicks" to get the camera monitor to power up. I apologize for any confusion.

Why no sound?

The monitor has a sound setting and the website shows a microphone in backup camera, why no sound?
