Bedroom Mod (sort of)
Before purchasing the 3051S we owned a travel trailer. It had a short-queen bed. A short-queen is a queen bed that's ~ 5 inches shorter than a standard queen.
The foam mattress that came with the TT wasn't very good. We tried lots of toppers and such to improve it. Finally, a year ago we had a custom-made short-queen mattress made for that TT. Luckily, we saved the old mattress.
So, here we are buying new Forester RV and selling our old TT. I pulled the new custom mattress out of the TT and put the old mattress in before putting the TT up for sale.
The 3051S came with a very nice full-queen mattress. We loved it. But we had this custom-made expensive mattress going to waste. So, we decided to try something. We pulled out the Forester's mattress and put the TT's short-queen mattress in it's place.
Wow, it worked. The nicest part is you get 5" of extra room at the base of the bed between the bed and the cabinets - which is a big improvement. Plus, this custom-made mattress is darn nice too.
I know what you're thinking - "Ugh, I'm tall I'd hate a shorter bed." But I'm 6'2" and it's never bothered me. So, I'm happy. Plus, it makes the storage space under the bed MUCH more usable. I'm going to put gas struts on that thing and we can store a lot of stuff in there.
Here's a photo of the extra room in the bedroom with the short-queen:
