Black Hills Trip

When I got back from Goshen, I thought everything on the motor home was fixed. So, we planned for our big trip to the Black Hills.
However, we have experienced a lot of problems, as follows:
Our first day on the road, the close hanger in the closet ripped out of the ceiling. I figured we could get that fixed when we got home. Fixed, 1/4 lag bolts, at these until we get back on the road.

We noticed an inch of water in the outside compartment that sits under the refrigerator and water heater. We do not know if it is just a leak in the door seal or something more serious.

Noticed that the slide lower front corner was not pulling tight to the body, causing wind noise in the cab.
All of the above we considered not show stoppers for our trip.
Now, when we got to the Badlands the slide jammed when putting the slide out! The upper front corner stopped moving. I went out and noticed that the slide topper mechanism had fallen apart all the screws had fallen out. I got my ladder out and put the mechanism back together. I cannot fix it because I do not have the proper screws, but got the slide to go in and out. It is still misaligned.
While I am in the process of working on the slide, the coach door latch stopped working, effectively forcing us to use the cab doors, crawling over the seats to get in/out.

Called a local mobile service repair company, good guy, eighty mile round trip. Replaced the door latch and added rewound the slide topper and put some larger machine screws in the topper mechanism.

Very reasonable, but seeing as I'm only two weeks out of warranty, still more than planned.

Ok, that's the Forest River part.

Then, I spilled coffee on my wife's laptop, dead, done. Not good.

Badlands are rain and cold.

Get to Rapid City and the weather forecast s is to freeze and 6-8 inches of snow. Decide not to go to Custer or Hill City. Rapid City gets 1 1/2" of sow and 28 degrees, Custer gets 8" and Hill City 6". Water hose freezes Thursday and Friday nights.

But there is always a silver lining, Friday, in Custer State Park and Needles Highway, snow in the pines, absolutely beautiful, just fantastic.

Stopped at Best Buy and got my wife the laptop she wanted. No argument.

This trip is getting expensive, but we are having a good time.

Definitely getting disillusioned with Forest River. Have no confidence that any trip will be trouble free. Maybe I'll have to sell the t-shirts.

We are staying at the Rafter J till Wed. The weather has turned and will be nice for the next few days. We were at the Little Big Horn for 3 days of cold wet weather. Went by the Alpine this evening and the line was outside and on the sidewalk waiting to get in. We will wait till Monday.

Rained when we were there, the parking garage in Deadwood has a real low height clearance so look for that.

Tons of things to see and do there.

Head off for Lead if you have the time.
