Coach Air Bag Leaks

My coach air bags always seem to loose pressure when I least expect it, and of course, while traveling down the road. I checked for leaks and could never find a leaking air line or fitting. The air bags are manufactured from Firestone and are a high quality bag so what gives? I decided to install a remote air compressor kit made for air control systems and install it myself. This will allow me to preset the air pressure then the system will monitor for a slow air leak while keeping the pressure at my desired PSI. The kit will also allow me to add air through the same valves if for some reason, my air compressor isn't working so I'm not stuck on the road with no way to add air pressure. The onboard compressor will also allow me to have an air chuck attachment for topping off the air in the tires as needed. Nice feature!

Going down the road your airbags will slowly leak air. They will have to be filled up every so often. The remote air compressor is a great upgrade! Can you post a picture so we can all see what it looks like and where you ran the lines?

Our bags were leaking as well, so we brought it to a local tire shop mechanic. He replaced the valve stem caps with chrome caps containing an o-ring gasket. I added air, tightened them up, and haven't had a problem since doing so two months ago.

Attached are the pictures of my remote compressor install and associated pieces. I deviated from the manufactures directions by installing the main power via a 30 amp relay that I control through the ignition on switch through the little power box beside the coach batteries. By doing this I can keep the power source close to the compressor.

Frank, did you consider adding a small tank? I also want to be able to use the system to inflate the coach tires.

I did, I just don't think that little compressor is up to the job!

Frank, it's hard to tell from the pictures but what model is it?? 72000?? Also, if I may ask, where is a good place to get it. I see a few on Amazon with the 72000 at $388.

Yes, it is the 72000 kit. $388.00 is a good price off Amazon or EBay.

x2. Think it would work as long as you have a quick disconnect.

Yes it can be done. Get a good bicycle pump rather than a Walmart special to make it easier.

I went ahead and ordered the 72000 kit off of Amazon. I decided to forgo the tank idea. I'll keep this compressor duty just for the airbags and just pick up a cheap portable for coach tires. That way I have the flexibility to use it on my coach or for the guy in the next site over with low tire pressure. Plus, it's a much less expensive solution... Thanks again. I may have more questions when I install it.

No worries! If you decide to use the coach batteries to power the compressor then I would suggest using a 30 amp single throw dc relay to power it. Trigger the relay with a 12 volt on ignition voltage from the coach. I used the power box next to the steps, there was a ignition on 12 volts inside.

You'll love this upgrade! I know I sure do...

Yes, a good quality bike pump is what I've been using with good success. As mentioned, a quick connect for a Schrader valve is necessary and you may need to add some longer Schrader extensions temporarily so the bike pump can access the pin on the air valve.

My road bike pump can go to 120psi and further.
