Dometic Fridge Help

Anybody else struggling with keeping your dometic fridge cool especially in Forester 2451/Sunseeker 2350? Mine just doesn't seem to keep up, temp was at 54 today, outside was 85. Have read many posts on other parts of the forum but was curious.

I did add the internal fan but seems worse this trip.

Also had it to dealer twice, they claimed it worked fine. It will get down to temp but can't seem to keep it low enough.

Camper is level, or within 1/2 bubble. Any suggestions? Think I'll be pitching food tomorrow. Day 5 of a 10 day trip to Virginia/Maryland shore. Pretty bummed!

After adjusting the plastic slide on the evaporator fin to maintain 33 degrees in the fridge, it has worked fine.

When the grandkids are with us, it struggles. Only because of holding the door open. Recovery time on this type of fridge is a lot longer than a mechanical fridge.

Does your condenser fan work? I imagine poor ventilation in the condenser compartment would hurt it.

Sounds like you (OP) need to have it checked by a reputable tech. Is your issue on electric, gas or both.

Still frustrated ! Pitched most of the food in the fridge.

Drove for 5 hrs yesterday and fridge is cold again.

Camper had set for 3 days when it got hot. I had switched to propane at one point but didn't see a change.

Wonder if I have some kind of short that vibration of driving fixed! Or is the circuit plugging.

Happy Camper cuz grandkids are along. Very grumpy that Dometic fridge is not reliable!

Depending when your parked is the side of the fridg on the sun side? Also if you have a cupboard next to it it will get very hot in it also which does not help. Very little insulation. Later RJD

Do you have an outside fan for it?

We were parked in the shade most of the time that it got up into the low 50s. Did drive out to beach and were in full sun all day with temps in high 80s outside and fridge stayed in 50s

I didn't install a fan but hear one running whenever it gets hot outside.

7 hrs on the road home yesterday on propane and fridge worked fine.

Overnight in the driveway on electric and at 36 this morning.

Seems to be an intermittent issue. Still frustrated! But anxious for next trip.

Guess I'll call Dometic as two dealers have not been helpful. FR warranty expired last week too!

Check to see if there is a loop in the condensation drain line that creates a pee trap. If no loop in the condensation drain line it will let warm air in to the fridg raising the temp 8 to 10 degrees. Sometimes during install they forget to loop the drain line coming out of the fridg.

We have a 2013 2450S and do not have this issue. When it is hotter outside it does run more. We stayed in Florida for 6 months last year and took a little fridge with us mainly for the beer. It fit in the rear storage door on its side. Just stacked around and on top of it. We wish these little RV fridges would work like our home unit. If you go in and out of these fridges it is harder for them to cool back down quickly.

Air flow is important!

It works fine when towed?

I feel your pain. Our first TT had the same fridge and it never cooked down. Service said its not designed to cool like a residential fridge and other excuses. We just lived with it accepting it is what it is. Now, we have a Forester with the same fridge and it cools like a champ. These fridges do cool and do quite a good job. Definitely insist on getting it fixed. Sorry for your troubles.

I had the same problem with my fridge. 50f+ on hot days and would freeze on cool nights. Several trips to dealer , works fine, rv fridges dont work as well as home units " BS every time.
Installed one of these. A manually adjusted resistor to replace a obvious out of spec temperature controlled variable resistor " THERMISTOR " to control temp.

Dometic Thermistor 2931863035 Repair RM2612 52 2812 52 | eBay

Took about 10 min including finding tools and clean up. I wired it in just as instructions indicated. It was 102 f today clear skies and enough wind to preclude awning, fridge held 34f all day. Fridge has always held 34 to 38 with out freezing at night since change over in spring of 14. Pay back was the first 2 week outing with no spoiled food.
I have no connection with vendor.

Well my camper is back in the shop for 3rd time to get Dometic fridge repaired. Dometic help line seemed friendly enough and recommended a different dealer. Hopefully they will find something that will make the darn thing stay below, or even close, to 40 on a regular basis.

Woo Hoo. Just heard back from the shop, thermistor and a circuit board were bad. Dometic provided parts and camper will be ready for pickup in a day or two. Just in time to pack this weekend for our Ozark trip starting next week!

Wish the first two dealers could have figured this out but thanks to Dometic for recommending Colerain RV after the first two failed.

Happy Camper!

1 week on the road and fridge seems to be working after the replacement of thermistor and a circuit board.
