DVD to tv while driving in 3051S?

Tried playing a DVD while I had the truck engine running in the driveway and it made me put on the emergency brake before it would play. Output was on the in dash screen as well as the cabinet tv. Any way to over ride that so it only plays back in the coach? I'll admit I haven't spent much time with the owners manual yet.

It's a safety interlock. The DVD would be playing on the dashboard screen too. Check state laws on the legality of this, but anyway it's a driver distraction. Imagine how the testimony would go at a personal injury or death trial.

A better solution would be to put a DVD player in the back and hook it to the TV, use a portable DVD player, or use a laptop to play the DVD.

yes, I'm aware of this. I just figured there would be a setting that only played the video to the external outputs that wire to the TV over the bunk or the bedroom, nothing to the in dash screen. How can I watch a movie from the dinette if I can't play a DVD while moving?

I gave you three ways to do that while moving.

If you really want to use the in-dash player to play DVD's while driving I have another suggestion. I just got done replacing the radio in my Subaru Impreza toad with a new Kenwood multi-media unit. As part of my research I read a lot of posts from other people with a situation similar to yours. The fix is to wire the radio's "parking" wire such that it actually see's a "parked" condition while your driving. That in turn would allow someone to use the multi-media functions on the radio while the car was moving. I would bet that there is probably a similar solution for the Jensen radio in your cab.

So you want to display movies in the coach only, not in the dash, while the engine is running?

I apologize for the attempt to summarize, but based on the responses you've gotten so far, apparently your initial post must be hard to understand

You would think that the video out would be constant and the unit screen would go blank, as is the case on all in car rear entertainment systems, at least the ones that I've owned. Since this doesn't seem to be the case, I would do as NewRVer said, and if the temptation of front video is too much of a distraction, cover the screen.

Yeah, I figured someone would tell you how to override the safety controls. And break the law in some if not many states.

Last january on our return from florda with our 5 yr old grandaughter, we were able to insert a dvd and have it play on the tv while I drove. No image on the head unit on the cab...no loss there. Ive zseen little mermaid more times than I care to admit. I just listened to podcasts on my phone with ear buds.

And yes, if you run power to the red wire at the back of the head unit marked "brake" you can get the system to work anytime you like. It thinks the parking brake light is on.

Yeah, what he said^^^^^

common sense will tell you to either watch the road or watch TV while you drive....I don't think a politician making stupid laws should be able to tell you

On my 3051s to watch DVD while driving turn the out put on the dash player to AV2 put DVD into player and turn tv on and set to AV2 on the tv input. Watch away!! picture will not show up on dash screen and parking brake never comes into play. As a mater of interest the parking never needs to be applied even if sitting in park if you want to watch DVD.

Once while driving across country in my class c by myself and at night, I confess I put my portable dvd on the dash just for the sound and company (Phil Silvers show) instead of listening to the radio. I only glanced at the screen for a split second every once and a while, no more than I did when checking my gauges. I did catch some of the picture in my peripheral vision at time but did not take my eyes off the road. This was the most enjoyable part of the trip and passed the time beautifully. Again, there was no distraction and probably less than talking to someone else and occasionally glancing in their direction. It kept me awake and alert and entertained.

I'll give this a try. For the record, I DO NOT WANT TO WATCH ON THE HEAD UNIT, I want passengers in the back to be able to watch DVDs while I am driving up front.

Any idea how to get some cooling to the mini bar? I hate when my martini gets warm!

wire the parking brake to a ground switch. might have to do a 3 position switch, depending on how that Jensen works. my old Jensen had a secret menu that let me override the parking brake in the software without wiring. and once you bypass it, one of those three buttons above the volume knob should power the screen off but leave the radio on. everyone is happy
