Factory Direct: Is It Possible?
As you may have seen from my previous posts, my wife and I are in the early stages of searching for a Class C and within Forest River we are most interested in the Forester 3011DS or the 3051s; we are sure these models will change by the time we decide to pull the trigger next year.
We now understand how financing a Class C works, thanks in large part to the input from this board.
Our next question is: Is it possible to order factory direct from Forest River bypassing a dealer?
In exploring the Forester product it seems the dealers in my area stock Foresters without the upgraded options we would select. I’d rather purchase direct from the factory, fly to Indiana (I assume that Forester is made in Indiana) to do our walk through and take possession.
Any thoughts?

As far as I know, you cannot bypass a dealer and order direct from the factory. It is just the same as trying to buy a new car/truck without going though a dealer - that violates the factory/dealer contract.
Others may have more information.

the dealer will order it with any options that are available. if you want something special ask bclemens first if it can be done. there are some special items they will supply even if not listed

gerryM51 x 2... your dealer can custom order your unit with whatever factory options you want, down to the color scheme.

Don't Forester and Sunseeker share the same floorplans?
RV Direct sells Sunseeker and have a pick-up compound in Elkhart, IN so you would save on delivery.
It's my understanding that the manufacturers will only sell to dealers...even the big internet dealers have to have a brick and mortar dealership associated with it.

If the factory sold direct I can't imagine that they would not sell it at MSRP. If they sold it to you at dealer cost the dealers would go nuts. I assume you would want to buy direct to save money. There are other brands (Phoenix and Nexus I think) who only sell direct and have no real dealers if you want to go that way.

Thanks for the input. It's what I assumed. I'm tired of dealing with the dealers in our area.

Buying from a wholesaler like RV Direct and RV Wholesalers is as close to buying from the factory there is.
Dave Durnell is a (shhhh high up dude) rep there and is a contributing member of our forum.
A PM to him may prove profitable to you both. If there is an RV direct rep here he is still "lurking" and may come out of the closet if he wants your business.

I'm sure all the other folks are correct.....you must go thru a dealer.....BUT.....I do know some folks that found the Forester dealer closest to the plant, ordered exactly what they wanted, then when it was delivered to the dealer...flew from their home in Alaska, picked it up and drove to southern Arizona for the winter before heading back home to Alaska.
So there might be an option for you. Hope it all works out.

Yes. Class C's and a's. Not sure if they have class b's. several different manufacturers. We got our Sunseeker from them and were very happy. No foresters though (only saying that as this is the forester forum).

Just peaked at RV Direct.
Class A and Class C only BUT WOW.
20-40% off MSRP
Forest River Georgetown XL Class A 378
Base Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price: $129,424.00
You won't pay anywhere near this price with RVDirect®. Expect 20% - 40% OFF.
As an example.
Here is the Georgetown Class A (not XL)
Forest River Georgetown Class A 280DS
Base Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price: $97,044.00
You won't pay anywhere near this price with RVDirect®. Expect 20% - 40% OFF.
