Finding Recall Information

I searched around on this forum site and even checked the Forest River sites but I haven't found an area where owners can check for recalls.
I would think Forest River would have a link to post recalls either general or model specific for their owners to check from time to time.

I have a new 2014 Forester 3171 and it was part of the Dometic awning recall. My coach is in the shop now for warranty stuff and I asked the dealer to check for any other recalls. They weren't aware of the awning recall, I had to give them the information I found in a post in another area of this forum. I went to the Dometic site and discovered my s/n was within the range. The dealer shop was slightly frustrated that they didn't know - that the customer brought it to their attention rather then the manufacturer (Dometic or Forest River).

I do see other recalls on Foresters but I don't think they apply to my unit. I think it would be nice to have a central area for owners to check. Maybe there is one but I am missing it??

Letters are ALWAYS sent out in recall situations. The issue is whether or not that gets passed on at the dealer level. The dealer gives us a contact and that is normally sales manager or GM. They would get all correspondence.

I do believe Forest River does diligently communicate recalls to the dealers. I see it this way, does each dealer have a person that sorts through all the letters from all the manufacturers? I don't think my dealer does. Then there is the issue of what is still on the lot to what has been sold. This is not a Forest River issue but rather how the individual dealers manage all this (as bclemens mentioned).
Hence why I think a central area (link) for owners to check for ourselves.
The link from wmtire seems to be a good tool.

Got my recall info from this blog. Called Dealer and was told that Dometic would notify me. Called Dometic and was told that Dometic does not track awnings. Dometic Arranged for a mobile repair. As far as I know, dealer is still unaware. Cost for me was downtime and a canceled week trip. The GM's may be getting the notice but they do not know what units are effected and do not want to send out a bunch of letters..
Not bitching about Dometic, they took good care of me, just bitching about the notification. Wonder what else we are not being communicated.

I got my coach back yesterday and the dealer had mine already replaced for me. The only problem is the tech at the dealer blunt cut the wires to the new motor instead of using the molded plug only 4 inches away. When I extended the awning it shifted the wires in the awning support pole, the blunt end of the positive wire sticking out of the clamp splice grounded and blew the fuse to the awning. The tech said the new motor didn't have the plug on the end. I guess Dometic had to produce them differently to roll out the recall. It was bad enough they couldn't use the molded plug but the tech didn't use electrical tape to wrap the connection.
Check your splice after the work is done.

Yes it does. Tech screwed up. Is does come with a plug. With the wires being exposed to the elements, at the least, he should have used the stakes correctly, no wires exposed and shrink tubing.

Is that the new replacement motor? Mine is black but probably because it needs to match the production color to the rest of the awning hardware.
Seems like if the replacement came with the plug the tech would see the plug instead of making more work for himself making the splice.

That is the end. You are correct, should match the color. I do not know about the plug. My replacement plugged right on. The mobile repair made sure that all wires were tied correctly.

My awning motor was replaced over a week ago. They drilled out the rivets, disconnected the wiring and pulled the motor. Then installed the new one with wiring plug in place and finished with new rivets. The wiring is exposed in the awning rail when open. A few wire ties help to keep it in place.
