Thumbs up

I agree with you grumpy0374. I have always done my oil changes that way and no regrets.

As long as you keep receipts you should be fine changing your own oil. I did a change at 3000 to full synthetic. I wouldn't sweat changing your own oil.

I just did my change yesterday. 2850 miles and oil was black, glad I changed it. I put in Mobil 1 5w30 and installed a NAPA Platinum filter.

I have a new SS on a Chevy chassis. When I took it in to my local Chevy dealer to get a state inspection sticker, they told me I have six free oil changes coming. My dealer offers Mobil 1 and said I could pay the difference to upgrade to the better oil. They said I could take it to any dealer when I'm traveling. It would be worth it for you to check with a nearby dealer.

I have been procrastinating doing the first oil change. 3,100 miles on it and will do it tomorrow. Going with Mobil 1. May go to Napa for filter.

I got the NAPA Platinum filter for $12 and change. It's their top level filter made for synthetic oil. NAPA's propaganda claims that it filters 100% better than their Gold series filters. The filters are made by Wix so I know they're good filters. I'm a bit OCD about my vehicles and I'll pay extra for synthetic oil and better filters. I figure if I'm in the middle of nowhere I don't want the engine taking a dump on me because of a $4 oil filter.

(from NAPA's website)
NAPA Platinum Oil Filters Use Fully Synthetic Media For Very Best In Engine Protection. Our Platinum Oil Filters Provide Ultimate Protection, Offering Technology For The Lastest Advancements In Synthetic Oils
Sealing Gaskets Are Made Of A Hydrogenated Nitrile Compound For Improved Durability At High Temperatures
NAPA Platinum Filters Are Essential For Elite Vehicle Maintenance And Complete Peace Of Mind.
Up To 100% More Dirt Holding Capacity Than NAPA Gold
Uses Silicon Anti-Drain Back Valves Which Will Not Harden Or Become Brittle, Providing Greater Protection Over Standard Nitrile Valves Used in Lesser Quality Economy Filters
NAPA Platinum Oil Filters Are The "BEST" Filter Choice In NAPA's Family Of Filters, When Using Synthetic Motor Oils Or Dealing With Harsh Or Severe Driving Conditions
