Flat Tire

Just had a flat on the inside rear wheel and was advised by a servie agent to drive it to a garage since it was close. Is it safe to drive with one rear tire flat?

Also, other than a proper jack, stand and wrench, is any other special tool requried to change the dooley tire? The tow truck driver claimed he needed a special tool to space the tires if he changed with my spare. Is this true?

Thanks.

Chad

I have driven a delivery truck with an inside flat in my day. If the tire is already chewed up, no loss but drive it slower. What could happen is the flat tire could heat up and fly apart. The good tire may also heat up because all the weight is one tire. My thought, if help is close by, go slow to get there.

I have driven Fire Apparatus with a flat inside rear tire unknowingly. I would remove as much weight as possible from the RV. Then drive it slowly to the repair shop with someone following you as an escort vehicle. They can keep an eye on the tires and help to direct traffic around you. You do not want to overheat the good remaining tire. BTW...will the flat tire hold any air? If the leak is slow fill it first. You could anyways stop half way and fill it some more.

BTW...I would think the spacer if required would be in place when the tire is changed. Just reinstall the spacer ring between the spare and outside tire.
