FM radio reception sucks

My Forester was delivered with a Jensen stereo unit.

The FM reception/range on it is terrible. Stations that I can pick up nice and clear on my regular truck radio - like 45 miles away, won't come in on the Jensen. I crawled under the dash today to make sure the antenna was plugged in. It was but I unplugged it and plugged it back into the stereo anyway - no improvement. Would replacing the antenna mast with a longer one help or it just the nature of the beast with the front overhang blocking radio signals?

Capt Skip...that is a very common problem in these trailers...very poor antenna on most of them...ours has trouble picking up some stations when parked right on our driveway.
