Just remove the air filter and you have good access from above.
There is enough flex in the belt to just push the pulley on to the boss with a little pressure, then install the bolt. Most are using some lock-tite.
Thank you. I have the parts on order. I’m not sure I have this belt noise problem, but there is a subtle noise that kicks in around 65 mph on my E-450. I thought maybe it was the drive shaft. Nonetheless, I’ll eliminate the belt noise as a potential problem.

That’s really great info. KJust to be clear I’m verifying that the only addition is the pulley circled in the picture.

And the bolt to hold the pulley on.

Thanks. Parts ordered by local Ford dealer for Monday pm delivery. Parts guy said they order in six at a time and they’re usually gone in three months.

Photos would help

Whoever gets their parts from Ford first, can you post your itemized work order from Ford here for others. Also include a photo of the actual components.

I for one, would like to know if it’s going to be an issue ordering it from a Canadian Ford dealership. Ford’s large vehicle network in Canada is a PITA sometimes. I just queried Ford.ca for a Commercial vehicle centre within 300 kms of where I live and there’s no match.

There are lots of Ford Dealers within that range, but none of them have service bay doors large enough to accommodate RVs. I get my routine maintenance done at a local garage who has always been honest and accommodating to my needs, and he even does the O/L/F outdoors on nice days.
Ford dealership mechanics don’t HAVE to perform their job outside, whereas local guys are more flexible.

Is Do-It-Yourself an option for you? I ordered my pulley and bolt from Ford dealers that sell on eBay. It’s usually no more expensive than going to the local dealer, plus I don’t need to interact with the dealer in person in these Covid-19 times.

As for the installation of the part, in the time it would take me to drive half way to the very local commercial vehicle Ford shop, I’ll already have the pulley installed myself.

I’m a DIY guy within a designated range just like another guy I know.

Sometimes I can fix it to the point no one can fix it.
I’m practicing to learn how to do things right up to that point now.

If you guys post the specific item number so I can compare local Ford dealer and eBay to Canada, along with any install photos or tricks.

Thanks

At the risk of taking this thread off track, my neighbor was like that. He tried but usually ended in needing help to fix his errors. The best one was he was doing maintenance on his RV and decided to drain the batteries and put fresh water in them. He asked what went wrong, after explaining how batteries work, he bought new ones. I just shook my head when he explained how he dumped the acid out.

I’ll post the parts info you need on Monday, which is when they are due to arrive. The parts are also used on other Ford models so any Ford dealer should be able to get the them.

Ford dealers who work on motor homes are not very numerous down here in the states. There are three within a 50 mile radius of my home...and every one of them said I would have to leave the MH and they might get around to it in 7-10 days. I’m convinced they do not want to work on motor homes.

Here’s the pix of the parts needed and the invoice showing the part numbers. Looks like it should fit but I’ll verify shortly. Also, look at the closeup in the second pix. It’s a Canadian product so you might find it up there from a different source.

Thanks for the work order and pictures so quickly.
It’ll be interesting what the price will be here in Canadian dollars
however I’ll look around for another source other than from Ford dealer.
I’m sure I’m not the only one here, waiting to hear how the installation goes.

Are you in a climate where you can fire up the V10 to actually hear the rattle or whatever noise this is supposed to address, and then do the install to see if this truly is the remedy?

Anxiously waiting on the sidelines.

By Canadian standards I'm definitely in a climate that allows me to do all that. But, by Georgia standards...not so much. It's in the high '30s today which is not really a show stopper, but the winds are gusting over 25 knots and directly into the front of the MH. Wednesday and Thursday it will be back into the normal '50s so will definitely get it done then. Looks like all I have to do is remove the air cleaner, slide the part in place and bolt it down. Maybe 15 minutes or so.

Will let you know.

Check reply #57:
"I put the pulley on the boss that is still there and the noise is gone."

I did the installation today, and I assure you it is the easiest task you will ever do to the Forester/Sunseeker engine. Once you remover the air cleaner box (passenger side portion only) by unclipping the holding ring you can easily see the boss where the pulley goes. It's also very easy to get to it.

Keeping the new pulley lined up with the boss just use it to push down on the belt...maybe a ¼ inch or less. It will easily slide into place. Then, insert the bolt and tighten. Total time is less than five minutes. Started the engine to test everything. It is definitely quieter. Button up the air cleaner and put the tools away.

Thanks for the update on the pulley installation. I am waiting for my parts to arrive. Questions: Did you use a liquid thread locker on the bolt, or does the bolt come with thread locker pre-applied? Did you have a torque spec for the bolt?

Ford mechanic at the dealer said 25 pounds. Felt about right. Used a very light coat of blue Locktite on the first ⅜ inch down from tip of bolt, wiped flush to about 1/32 or so below the thread peak. That was to prevent any chance of the Locktite coming into contact with the bearing in the center of the pulley.

Thanks for the follow up. Sounds terrific.

Now I just gotta figure out 25 pounds in metric before the police up here find out what I’ll be doing come warmer temps.

25 ft-lb is about 33.9 Nm. I convert those units of measure anytime I’m working on metric motorcycles, which is quite often. There are many online conversion tools.

Just received my pulley today, still waiting for the bolt.
