Did your mileage change at all after the update? We have the 3171DS and get around 7 to 8 mpg without towing.

Traveling Pa, Rt 81, before PCM update w/o toad was 7.5 mpg, same roads WITH toad after PCM update was 8.2 mpg.
So, maybe it's a little better, once we travel on flatter roads we'll see how it does in comparison. Best flat roads w/o toad was 9 mpg.
They Ford guy said we may get a little better mileage after update, but then again...I take their info with a grain of salt.

Not sure I want this " upgrade" after clocking my mileage heading down I-81 last night. Cruise at 62mph. Click image for larger version

It's not an upgrade its a factory recall. I don't believe they'd go through the expense of a recall for any upgrade. It may result in a change of fuel mileage but that's not the intent of the recall.

9.4 MPG would be downhill with a tail wind for my 3051S. We're thrilled when we see 8.5 MPG. We find wind and hills make all the difference as long as we keep it around 60 to 62 mph.

Two weeks ago I was driving from Carlsbad NM to Fort Stockton, TX on US 285. This stretch of highway goes straight through the "Oil Patch" that's a big part of the current oil boom. Hundreds of oil trucks, service trucks, fracking fluid trucks, and every other kind of heavy vehicle racing (!) up and down this highway day and night have destroyed the road. Plus it runs through some really barren scrub desert with 100+ temps. As I banged and crashed down this 140 miles of hellhole of a road a fierce wind picked up. At least 30+ mph - it was difficult to hold my lane. Then blinding rain followed by a dust storm.

I filled up with gas in Carlsbad and then again in Fort Stockton. The fuel mileage function in the GPS said I got 5.6 MPG for that 140 miles of driving.

From Fort Stockton to home was 303 miles on I-10 with no wind. On that part of the trip I averaged 8.4 MPG.

But we've never seen 9 MPG.

I know it's a recall. I was kidding about the upgrade.

I received a recall notice. Spoke with the concierge for servicing and she said that the local dealer would contact me... nothing; as expected.

I saw a few posts here regarding gas mileage. We seem to be getting about 5 mpg on our 22 ft. Class C. How are you 30' people getting more?

Toni, something is wrong if you are only getting 5 mpg. How fast do you drive? Above 62 mph I see my gas mileage going downhill fast. I get 8.5 in my 32 foot.

Generally I freeway drive 55-70 depending on where and traffic. I don't drive 70 too much though being it's not easy to stop the RV. I am new at driving a motorhome, but got lots of practice this summer. I soon discovered that slowing and stopping a motorhome feels like stopping a boat on water! But, back to my mpg issue, I do need to write the numbers down next time I fuel up. I try to not get it below 1/2 tank on trips, so it will take a couple of refuels to gather the data.
