Fuel mileage

I have a 2017 Forester 3171DS and I get 9.5 without a toad and 7.5 with a toad, + - . Not sure how far you can go when light comes on. I don't let it get that low.

If it really is a 55 gallon tank and you can fill it full, I had 5 gallons left and drove about 30 miles after the light came on. Usually go about 400 miles then fill up.

Sorry but giving you mileage info will be a crap shoot. It just depends on too many factors: uphill, downhill, windy, speed, highway, city, combination, weight of rig, etc etc. All these things will effect mileage.

As stated I've never let it get so low the light came on and if it did I have no idea just how many miles I could go as it would depend on the above info.

Pretty sure all class c's on the E-450 chassis have a 55 gallon tank.
If you let it go till the "oh s__t" light comes on, you may have 25-35 miles left.
Just learn to drive on the top 2/3 tank. When down to 1/3, start looking for fuel.
Going into Canada Tuesday and up to Alaska, and will be driving on top 1/2 of tank, and then filling up.
Way too many variables to guess mpg. It is what it is, everyone's will be different, even 2 identical rigs from the same assembly line. Gas up when needed and just have fun. Worrying about it will get you nowhere but headache land.

I've never had a low fuel warning on our E450. I seldom let it go below 1/4. The fuel gauge is very consistant. I can count on having 12 gallons left when the gauge is on 1/4. I'd suggest using 1/4 as a minimum. As stated earlier, when the low fuel light comes on, you don't have many miles left.

I once put 52 gallons in the tank. When I let it go that low I had been making trips between home and the storage yard, and there were gas stations along the way if it had gotten too close to empty for my nerves. I forgot to keep an eye on the low fuel light, but I didn't notice it. I plan to never see it except when starting the engine.

Don't be of the mindset like my Buddy! He believed his "Salesman" that said,"You have 20 miles after the light comes on"!We tried to tell him to Stop for Fuel, but NO he kept repeating what his Salesman said! Three of us walked to a Bar while HE Waited 2 hours for AAA to bring Fuel! He will Never live that down! Keep Fuel in your tank,or have "Comfortable Shoes"! Youroo!!

Believe me, I didn't. In the east around here, there is a station every other corner. But sometimes they just are not at every exit on the Interstate. I hit several that were not there any more.

I don't like letting the tank get that low because of the fuel injection pump in the tank. They don't like running low on fuel. I can't picture dropping a 55 gallon tank, cause you know it will be full.

Sometimes there's a station where you need to stop but you can't get in or out with a toad, so don't plan your gas stops without much margin.

I planned to stop at a little station where I got off an interstate and headed into mountains. I checked it on Google Earth to be sure I could get in it. It had two pumps and I could get to them from one side. When I got there they were working on the building and had scaffolding blocking that side. Luckily I was able to circle around on some dirt roads to get to the other side. Otherwise I would have had to unhook the toad, turn around and go back 50 miles to another station.

I keep things under or at 65mph and try not to go heavy on the pedal on steep inclines. Not towing yet but these numbers have been pretty consistent so far here in Virginia.

I have the same RV. We have run into the Low Fuel light once on the road and again recently on the final miles going home from a 1000 mile trip.

We can attest to getting 20 to 30 miles on the low fuel light.

For example, just a couple of weeks ago, we filled up with gas in Ft. Stockton, TX and drove home. This was 318 miles. The low fuel light came on at 294 miles. We were towing our toad and there was a strong South wind (we were going due east). We know from when we did get fuel that we were seeing an actual 6.67 MPG on that leg of our trip. I drive between 62 and 65 mph.

When I filled up with Gas - on my way to the RV storage lot - we put in 48 gallons of gas. So, there should have been 7 gallons of gas left in the tank.

The only other time we've seen the low fuel light was again in West Texas on Interstate 10 heading west. Again, towing a toad. Again South wind. The low fuel light came on at 304 miles since a fill up. We drove to 328 and made it to the gas station. When we filled up we put in 52 gallons of fuel. So, only 3 gal left in the tank supposedly.

Someone earlier said they got 400 miles from a tank of gas. Must have had an empty RV, not towing, had a tail wind and going down hill for 400 miles.

We routinely see 6.5 to 8.5 mpg. Wind is the biggest factor. We average 7.0 mpg.

I get that running south o the Interstate. Not all the time but I have several times. I'm not stock. Cold air intake, program in the comp. and I keep it around 60. Just a open car trailer with a Falcon on it. 80000 + miles so far.

400 miles is not that hard to do if you get 8.1 mpg. I do better then that a lot of times.

x2 on everyone else not letting it get low. I start looking for gas around 1/2 tank, I need to get up and move around after 150 some odd miles anyway.

We have run into the signs on the highway being wrong but the bigger issue for us is finding a gas station that I can fit in while towing a car. I drive by 3-4 stations before I find one that I can fit in. Google street view has helped a lot but not always.
