Fuel Stats

Fuel Stats

For the nerds like me who love crunching numbers and always wondering what kind of MPG I am getting, here is the stats on fuel usage from a round trip Beaumont, TX to Lake Buena Vista ( Disney's Fort Wilderness) from November 18th through November 28th.

I have a 2014 Forest River 31' 3170DS Sunseeker, Ford Chasis, 6.8L V10

As a note, I averaged 70 mph, had the generator, coach, and cab a/c running. We did not pack light, and also had a Yamaha Vino Scooter on the hitch.Fresh Water tank was about 3/4 Full ( about 30 gallons). We did not go out of our way off of I-10 to look for cheaper fuel, mostly Loves and Pilot. I did fill up with one tank of premium (I like to run 1 tank to every 5 or so tanks). This also includes about an hour of stop and go traffic near Gainesville.

Fuel $487.59
Miles Drive 1,799
Total Gallons 247
Avg MPG 7.29
Avg $1.97 per gallon
$ per mile $0.271

Worst tank MPG: 6.42 - Speedway - Lake Buena Vista Florida ( This is where we had all of the stop and go traffic near Gainesville)

Best tank MPG: 8.52 ( Purchased from Loves in Loxley, Alabama)

Lowest Gas - Shell Hammond Louisiana $1.719 ( Regular)

Highest Gas - Loves - Lee Florida $2.09 (Regular)

Highest Gas - Speedway - Lake Buena Vista Florida $2.33 (Premium)

We have made that trip twice and are just a bit more inland (College Station). We mostly average 65mph and run the generator in the summer time the whole. Our average is 8 - 8.5 mph. Once during the winter time with no generator running we got 9.9mpg for a whole tank, that's the best its ever been.

All I can say is with fuel prices under $2 in SC,Now is a great time to enjoy as many trips as possible
I rarely fill up (except for buying in South Caro) cause we are going to stop for breaks any way and my experience in aviation has taught me that hauling extra (expensive) fuel costs money

I have been tracking my MPG since the 1970's. My spread sheet goes back to 1995. All of that for my cars.

Started in August with my first RV. Not many mile yet but on my Sunseeker 2250 on a Chevy chassis I am getting 9.7 MPG driving up to 75 on turnpikes, on hilly roads closer to home and sitting in traffic. The dash readout claims 10.7 average.

Keep in mind that my rig is smaller and lighter than most.

Kinda a geek too! And the spreadsheet says!

10,220.3 miles total since new

7.7 MPG overall average

1329.33 gals, $3204.39 So 31 cents per mile.

Best tank: 8.8 cruising along the Natchez Trace, maybe 50 MPH no toad

Worst tank: 6.2 MPG pulling Mini Cooper toad running ~70 MPH across Alabama

Loving the less than $2/ gal compared to nearly $4/gal when new!

Winterized and parked for now but dreamin about the next trip!

I am surprised class C's don't get a little better MPG, after reading other postings with the larger gas Class A's also reporting MPGs in the 8-10 mpg range.

It would seem (to me) the same V10 engine in a smaller frame, closer to the ground, and and not such a flat front would be more aerodynamic.
