Help! Jensen flat panel 12v adapter cord melted!

Our power cord to our Jensen flat panel kept on pushing out from the outlet and tonight it melted! I think it may be a faulty power cord from some previous 2016 posts we found on this problem. Now there is melted plastic inside our outlet and not sure if we have to replace the whole outlet or not. Click image for larger version

Had the same problem minus the outlet deal. The repair shop we took it to called the company and they replaced it and so far no problems. Ours was covered so it was free. The socket should be just 2 screws to remove then 2 wires and you may be able to find the socket in an Auto parts store.

If you are unable to clean/scrape out the melted plastic from the 12 volt power socket you will need to replace the plate. That plate is also the 12 volt power supply booster amp for your OTA antenna.
You can find it at most RV supply houses or of course Amazon.
Be sure to note the coax and power connections when you remove the existing plate. You should have the power feed and 3 coax cables to the rear of the plate.

As far as the plug on the cord, you can replace it with a standard replacement plug that you can obtain at any auto parts store. There is nothing special about the Jensen factory plug.

My primary concern would be to determine why the plug melted in the first place.

I’ve had several of those cigarette lighter adapters come unscrewed in the front...a couple of them melted!

I make a habit of checking the tip every so often and screw it back in if needed.

Red Hot Lighter Socket

I always unplug my two 12V flat panel TV’s when not using, I don’t like them standby powered up when not needed. And shoving the spring loaded plug tip back in the socket helps insure a good connection when the TV’s are put back in use. A poor connection can cause resistance that causes a lot of heat. It would be wonderful if the industry could come up with something better than a loose-fitting socket that was designed in the great depression for a cigarette lighter to pop out of when it got red hot!

I just checked ours in the bedroom and the ground came off of it. ours is just the 12v outlet. so check the back side of it, that could be the problem. the arcing is what might have caused it. good luck.

Mine did the same thing. I never leave it plugged in now unless I'm watching TV.

Ours did the same thing in our 2016 Sunseeker. Replaced.

Thanks for the suggestion to unplug when not in use. We will do that!

In our 2017 3010DS we unplug the bedroom and outside TV but can’t get to the plug for the living room TV. Anyone have this model and figured out how to unplug it?

We just received the new cord, plugged it in, and no go. I’m so bummed as this will not be possible for us to repair unless we unhook from where we’re staying and drive to some repair shop. We’re not handy and don’t know anything about electrical stuff. I’m assuming the outlet plate is blown. Unless someone here could give us step by step dummy instructions on how to replace this plate.

We unscrewed the plate, scraped the plastic out, screwed the plate back on and noticed the green booster amp light did not turn on. We unscrewed the plate again and hubby noticed a wire had come loose. He reconnected it and now everything works. Hopefully this new power cord won’t burn up! We’ve always unplugged the TVs when we had our motorhome in storage. We figured there was a drain on the batteries when these TVs were on standby even while using the battery cut off switch. Thank you everyone for your help.
