Hitch rack for Tricycle, use cargo haul?

Not sure if this is the place for this topic, but I'm sure the moderators will correct it if needed.
Bought the DW a tricycle as she never learned to ride as a kid. she loves it and we'd like to take it along on trips to places like Yosemite. It's to big to fit inside and there doesn't seem to be a rack for it. I did find a few for light weight low racing ones which cost $500.
I thought of maybe buying a cargo haul for the hitch and folding the tricycle. Then lay the back axle across the top rim with the wheels over hanging and strap the thing down well. If it's too low and scrapes going down driveways, I can buy a 4" riser.
My bike can go on the ladder mount I already have.

Don't know what your RV is, but if a trailer/5th wheel..... I had a 2" receiver hitch installed on the front of my truck. I put the platform there and carried a trike and bicycle. Worked great. Most trailers do not allow that much weight on the rear bumper.

Since you have a Forester, it should have a receiver installed. You should be fine installing a carrier. I'd suggest getting an aluminum model.

Those little tricycles don't weigh as much as some bikes. I bet you could straddle the carrier with the rear wheels and strap it down good and it'd be fine.

The Forester has the 2" receiver and 7,500 lb cap. Straddling the rear axle is the only way it would work. The rear wheels are 27 3/4" apart and I will need a cargo hauler of less than 22" for the straddle. I can make a wooden U channel for the axle to lay in and bolt it to the frame and bottom. The tricycle weighs 56 lbs and the bigger bike 33 lbs. When the tricycle is opened up, it's 62" wheel to wheel and from the axle to the the front wheel is 54" So it should fit. I probably will need a riser so as not to scrape. Aluminum is good, but I have to find one narrow enough for the wheels to hang.

Has anyone had issues with a bike ladder rack? 33 lbs hanging and bouncing
Thanks

We usually have 3 grandchildren and take 4 to 5 bikes with us.
I looking for the same thing but a little wider and taller sides to roll the bikes into. I'm thinking a custom made rack like this with taller sides - maybe 30 in inches tall by 30 to 36 in deep.

I have a aluminum carrier that I use for my wife's 4 wheel scooter that I got at Harbor Freight. It has a fold down ramp to put things up on it. Being it is aluminum it is lite weight also. The price with shipping was right. They also always have a 20% discount with just about all their ads.

I got an all-aluminum cargo carrier for my tricycle and I absolutely love it! It's long and wide enough for my trike, folds up when not in use, has a ramp, and it doesn't rust. I bought it at

Your carrier looks fine. I reinforced mine with a steel plate on the bottom of the carrier tongue because it does bounce a little on the road so did'nt want too chance aluminum tongue bending or breaking. Safe travels .

Can someone claify something simple for me . Are we talking about the back of a travel trailer or a c class. I would like to carry a tricycle on me Rockwood minilite but don't see a way that would work except putting in the back of my pick up which would preclude my bed cover

Get yourself a front receiver hitch for your truck is the best solution.

Stlcaly...If you look at the thread you will notice it's in the Class C Forester section and if you take a second to look at the person signature you will notice he has a Class C motorhome.

Mine has a steel tongue that goes all the way to the back. It's very sturdy. I can use it also as a platform for a lawn chair when parked (would be funny while driving ).

Anyone use a ladder rack for bikes?

Looks like my bike will have to go on the ladder rack, has anyone had any problems with weight on the ladder? It shouldn't be more than 45 lbs total.

May try this

HF has a smaller aluminum cargo carrier that will work if I turn the tricycle front wheel sideways and have the rear axle laying on top of the basket. I would need to buy a 4" riser to get it up as it would surely scrape going up and down driveways.

you should be able to fit the trike on a four bike rack with room for your bike as well. lifting it up onto the rack might be a problem depending on physical ability.

Found this one and it would be perfect. BUT when I called manufacturer, they said NOT for RVs because overhang. It must be 72" or less otherwise there is too much stress especially on the fold-up models. I have 96" of overhang.
Perhaps I could add 2 bolt-on receivers in bottom photo on the bumper and add 2" by 2" metal tubes to the basket for more support and stability????

Caper, I saw that at HF and manual says not to exceed 55 mph with carrier attached.

Received the cargo basket today, not the one in the photo NO bike rack or folding. Ran by HF for a hitch riser. They were out of the double and had to get the one with a tongue for a ball. Looks like it will all work for the tricycle. Will have photos tomorrow. But will have to exchange the hitch riser as they welded the top receiver crooked and everything is thrown off. The receivers and 2x2's have some sway and I will need to pickup 2 hitch tighteners,
Now what to do about my bike. Has anyone used a ladder mount for their bikes on a Forester or Sunseeker? I had no trouble with my Winnebago Minnie mounting 2 bikes on it for 2 trips to Yosemite. But this is no Winnebago.
I have considered a bumper mount Bike rack which I can squeeze one bike in maybe??? I would have to modify it and remove the second bike tray.
