Hole in battery compartment.

Is the round hole in the step house battery compartment supposed to be there? I just donít remember seeing it, but Iím assuming this is for ventilation. ??

More than one hole likely. One unused, for off gassing, and one, used, to pass wires through (probably at least the ground to chassis)

It is a vent hole. Here is what I did to address the open access issue. I did because of where I live. It may not be necessary for you.

Thank you so much for the idea! I thought I was going crazy because I just never noticed that hole. Weíre on the road right now and will be camping at a sustainable farm. Iím sure there will be little critters involved. I just donít want any little visitors climbing through that hole into the RV. Weíre not able to fix this right at the moment, so do you think a little critter could squeeze through the step??

Nope. The step / cover has a gasket to make it water / gas tight. As long as the gasket is in place no squeezing should be possible unless it's a tiny tiny bug and then they'll find other ways in as well...

My problem with it was that water from the road got in.

What happyguy said and as long as the battery cables have the foam seal in tact then not an issue. My concern is having a cottonmouth, coral or rattler crawl in there and sayin howdee do when I open the step/cover. Already had one under the front hood. Fortunately it was a King and more scared than me.

I put some wire mesh over the hole and secured with silicon around the edges, it can still vent. We had a mouse problem but that seems to have solved it along with filling all other gaps I found.
