I was one of the lucky ones and got the free update and it is a pretty screen and larger than the Garmin Nuvi, but yes it's clunky.

I've got the VM9728BT in my new 3051. I've contacted Naviextras to get the free update. They said the unit was activated in April of 2015 and obviously beyond the 30 day update window. They asked for proof of purchase. I just bought the MH a week and a half ago so I sent them a copy of the bill of sale to prove I just took ownership. No response since Sunday and I've sent them two follow up emails. Anyone got a phone number to call?

Forget about calling them, they are in Hungary!
It took about 2 or 3 days to get the email response, then I just went online to naviextras.com and it was all set up for a 7 day period to update. Check Naviextras. Most of us had to use a larger capacity MicroSD card to get all the update. The one it came with was not enough. Good Luck and enjoy the Forester!

We have a Garmin Nuvi that we've used in our old MH and other vehicles. We'll probably use it in the new unit even though it has the 7020. So far in the limited time I've tinkered with the Jensen, I've been disappointed with it..
If Jensen/Naviextra's wants that much for an update, I'll update it, all right. With a different brand.
Interesting thread!

Make sure they have checked the brakes! Left my dealer with our PT 325rres without brakes! I was told the electric to the brakes was checked but I found that the brake pads weren't even hitting the drums. The trailer could easily push you into trouble, possibly fatal! Just a thought

I'm doing the same thing. My Garmin Nuvi on the dashboard is much easier to see without taking my eyes off the road and looking down into the dash to see the Jensen unit. The Garmin is also much easier to use and seems to be much more accurate. My Jensen unit is for playing music while on the road, Garmin will tell me where to go.

I agree Fred. I setup up both and primarily use the Garmin Nuvi, which advises me of FREE updates. I never touch the Jensen once we hit the road. It seems to default to a larger scale view so I don't have to adjust the Garmin. I was surprised that both were within a few miles and ETA of each other coming home from Quartzsite. Going was another story. Garmin was right on and Jensen was 1 hr longer and 65+ miles??? I hope JovialJeeper got his update.

What's this got to do with navigation or forester motor homes? You might want to repost in the trailer section!

Interesting coffee read this moring. Could the delivery drivers to the dealers be activating the GPSs ?
Looking at late spring, or early summer to order a Forester, and I will be checking this out prior signing!

Not a big issue anymore now that we know how to get them. I believe some one told me that activation occurs when the radio installation is complete and all functions are tested. I had to send in documentation of the sale and that I was the end user within 30 days. The Bill of sale is to long and has information that's none of their business. They accepted a copy of the dealer to Forest River warranty form as proof of my purchase. Good luck!

That's exactly what happen to us. Ordered a new unit thru CW and when it was delivered from Elkhart to Salt Lake City, the driver activated it to find his way to the final destination . Then after the pdi, our unit sat at the dealer for another 3 weeks getting things fixed. By the time we got it home and we started familiarizing our self with the unit, the free 30 day update had run out. Make sure you get it updated while still at the dealer.

So how do I tell if I'm eligible for a free update? I was not able to see anything in the NAVI toolbox that made it obvious and the only information I could find in the program after the toolbox read the Jensen Micro SD card is shown in the attached photo.

That looks like you have the update available for free. Suggest you try to update immediately. I think the MicroSD card maybe still be too small for the update. I used an 8 GB. They only give you 30 days from activation to update, once expired it gets more involved.
Good Luck!

I will be trying this evening. The program did say there was not enough storage available for an update (just short by 20M) so I bought a 16G micro card today for $10.

You can select what regions to download - I got just USA and Canada. I don't plan on taking my RV to Mexico. Even though it's only 2 hours from here. That used to be something we all did - go to Mexico a couple of times a year to buy things and sightsee. But since the drug war it's far too risky for "rich" Americans with RVs.

Hell No! My wife doesn't even want to fly into Mexico anymore.
Canada, now that's a possibility.

NewRVer,
When did you buy your MH? Check maps installed. 2015 Q3 is the latest. They give you 30 days from first activation. Check in Naviextras in upper left corner for you device details. If within 30 days, you should be able to just update for FREE.
If over 30 days, they honored mine within 30 days of my purchase. I clicked on Support and Customer care and scrolled thru to send a question. Asked how can I get my FREE map update as the end user when the MH Nav radio was activated prior to my purchase? They came back a few days later requesting proof of purchase. Must be done within 30 days of your purchase for them to honor it.
I sent that in and a few days later received a reply stating I had 7 days to install it. The authorization was already to go and I only had to insert the SDmirco card. Original 3 GB card was to small and I used an 8 GB I had.
Good Luck!

The new updates also say something about including Premium POI's for Free now. Not sure exactly how useful that would be. Thoughts?

Picked up our RV two weeks ago. I am trying to remember the steps that the GPS walked me through when I put my first address in. I don't really recall but there is a chance that I might have been the first person to use the GPS. I will check device details again when I get home but I don't remember that providing any detail indicating when the system was first used.
