Thumbs up, press up and out, harder, harder, come on, put the thumbs into it. It will open and actually gets a touch easier. Either your thumbs will strengthen or the tabs will loosen.

I have a 2021 Rockwood 2608BS and am not able to close my vent, it is off centered by about 1/4”. My wife says to take it back while it is under warranty, but I kind of like the idea of using a knife and cutting the sides of the tabs down.

X2. I’ve left the flapper unhooked on every rig I’ve owned. Never a problem…nothing enters and none have ever fallen off.

It is a big deal if we leave our range vent flap open during travel. Since the thread is about a motorhome, it should be noted that, depending on the model, it can be very noisy traveling with the flap open. Your signature says you have a fifth wheel, if I researched it correctly, so you and others with trailers probably wouldn’t notice the vent noise when under way.

I have the 3051 motor home and never hear any noise from the flapper. Been a long time but I don’t remember the 1979 Winnebago mh having vent noise.

Right. That’s why I said, “depending on the model.” Ours was horribly noisy on the first day drive home from the dealer. We quickly figured out that the range vent flap being open was the cause. Its good that yours is quiet.

Interesting. Your MH has the flap on the pax side, along with a lot of other stuff which definitely would create turbulence leading over the flapper (heater and refrigerator vents, door, door grab handle). The 3051 has the flapper on the driver side with only two fairly flush mounted windows forward of the flapper.

Could very well be the difference in noise levels inside.

You’re probably quite right. The air flow is surely “dirtier” on the curb side, what with the awning rails and the coach door, grab handle, etc that you described. I hadn’t thought of that as a contributing factor in range hood vent noise during travel.
