Increasing Counter space while using 17" sink
The DW likes the large sink when cleaning up. However, when preparing meals it takes up a lot of usable counter space. The pop-up extension helps but it's a long reach over the sink. When looking at other RV sinks, many have a divided lid covering which adds more counter space yet allows for sink use.
My solution was to cut the round lid so as to provide more counter space and utilize the round sink.
We made templates of cardboard to see what works. We made one side larger to add more sink rim to provide support. Also we had chip on the edge so we made the cut there. That's why the hand cut out is off set. I used a Dremel rotary tool with a tungsten carbide thin bit and made many multiple passes to make the cut. Then I sanded the edge with ever finer sandpaper.

Looks GREAT! I'm going to have to do the same when I get a chance. Extra counter space while having the sink is always good.

Excellent mod. More counter space is always better. Your location for the hand cut out being off set because of a small chip secret is safe with us

Thanks, took a few tries with templates. I first tried doing it like a crescent moon, but the small piece had no support and fell into the sink. Found that making one piece larger by an 1" or 2" than the other gave it a little more counter space and seem more pleasing to the eye. I tried a template with one side larger by 3" and 4", but it didn't seem to allow enough of the sink opening.

Wonder why I don't see this on NEW POSTS? I do see it under Recent discussions.
What does it take to be on New Posts?

If we did a larger half moon cut on the main cover, would that achieve the same purpose? I think I'll send this to our countertop people. Good idea.

Thanks Brian,
As I mentioned, we made the lid slightly larger on one half as it does give it more stability and support.
Actual measurements are the lid is 17"
Made larger half 10" radius minus 1/8" for kerf of cut
Small portion of lid is 7"
I thought it was more offset, but only 1 1/2" and it does make a difference.
Attached photos show the cut in half template on top of the one I used on the bottom.
I mentioned this to Kary K at the Pomona RV show and I believe he might be keeping up with my ideas and mods.

Practical use of sink lid
Here's a photo! Just making coffee this morning. Should have taken a shot last night making dinner.

Did something similar with my double sink, but used a 24"x18"x1/2" white industrial cutting board. Cardboard pattern, jig-saw. I like your split idea, I might give mine one more cut between the two sinks.

I hope you explained why the hand cut-out is where it is, to cover a chip in the lid.
