I've given up on GPS's and now use the smart phone app Waze. It knows live traffic conditions by keeping track of other Waze users and can reroute you based on real-time conditions.
Users report speed traps, red light cameras, police on tje side of the road, etc. and it warns you about all of this. I love it!

Waze is kind of a social network take on GPS navigation. They were their own company until they were bought out by Google, so now they are essentially powered by Google maps. It is a very fun app to use.
