My DW wants me to built her a shelf for above the toilet. What kind of wood are the cabinets made of?

Really Joshua? I thought it might be maple or even real cherry.

I think mine were made in china from tiwan bamboo. 3 months and 5000 miles and they are all comming apart at the corners, doors and cabinets.FR has agreed to adress the problem in our unit so what happens remains to be seen!Scary part is Ive seen two other trailers, both 2015's with the "dark cherry" cabinets (that are white wood where they come apart) with the same issue.

Price for a board foot:

Yellow pine: $3.35
Cherry: $5.95

http://hardwoodstore.com/lumber-prices

How much do you want to pay for your RV?

We have 40,000 miles on our 2011 Sunseeker 3100 and the cabinets are fine. I had to tighten or replace a few hinge screws. I replaced all seven lifts on the top-hinged cabinet doors. The originals used the attaching screws as pivot points. The screws came loose and the lifts rubbed grooves in the cabinet opening.

Will have to stop by the lumber yard with a cabinet door and see what comes close in grain and stain color. The shelf will go above a towel rod that I placed above the back of the toilet. It will actually be a long shallow box to hold TP and a few other things that may be necessary for showering.

Or you could do what I would since I have no cabinet making skills. Install something different like chrome or plastic or basket weave.

You have a good idea to put something useful in an unused space.

____

That's great. I'm happy to hear that the work is done in the USA.

My hobby besides RVing is building Arts and Crafts furniture. A shelf is an easy project. Glad to hear they are USA made. Heard somewhere they were made by the Amish at a factory owned by Warren Buffet, false???

I sent an email to FR customer service a month or so ago as I wanted to find the stain color used on the cabinets. I was told that the cabinets were built by an outside vender and I was advised to contact them. I did and I was told that it was a custom blend stain and not available for sale. So...the magazine rack I built doesn't match the rest of the cabinets.

CaptainSkip, I was playing around with a pine board and tried Minwax gunstock stain. Gave it 2 coats and it's a little too red, so I went over it with English Chestnut and it is closer, but not an exact match. May try mixing the two. Will work on it some more as I have about 6 or 7 stains.

Thanks, I think I mixed some Minwax Chestnut with Golden maple and came up with something fairly close, not an exact match but close.

Wow, the cheap cabinets may be a deal breaker. Pine. SMH

The cabinet doors and drawer fronts are real cherry wood with the cherry stain and real maple wood with the maple stain. The cabinet boxes/face frames are all vinyl wrapped real wood styles common for the industry. Normally a light weight wood (could be a variety of species) with a lauan face veneer to keep the face smooth and knot free. They use pocket screws to attach everything. No mdf cabinets and no staples to assemble the face frames.

Someone on here was able to get a stain that worked perfectly when they did some custom cabinets. Most cabinet companies if you take them a door can match the stain, just like any paint shop can now scan a sample and match a wall color.

The cabinets are assembled in the plant. The doors and drawer fronts are provided by (2) supplies. I think the cherry comes from Adorn (a division of Patrick).
