Ladder to the roof
Hi all, I didn't realize my Forester doesn't have a ladder to the roof. Have any of you installed an 'after market' ladder and if so how did that work out for you? I can't see packing a ladder around with me. LOL

What model do you have?...I thought the ladder was standard on the forester. Most of us post the model in our signature.

I have no idea on this, however, a question needs to be answered before you take a roof stroll---will your trailer handle the weight of someone walking around on the roof?
I know for a fact that that's the reason some manufacturers of RV's don't add ladders to their trailers.

The brochure states the ladder is standard equipment except for the 2401R (with the rear slide).

I heard that on some RVs don't they have a good mounting base on the roof for a ladder. Such is the case in mounting a TV on an outside wall without a backing board in the wall. There is nothing solid to attach it to.

No ladder on our 2801QS either it has a rear slide as well. I bought a telescoping ladder for emergencies and for keeping the snow off the solar panel. Also got the cover and rubber end protectors for it as well. It fits nicely in the back compartment.

In most cases if it doesn't have one then one cannot be added.

That's exactly what I have and I figured the rear slide was the reason it did not have a ladder. I'm thinking there must be some way to attach a ladder.

They started adding ladders after I ordered my 2015 2251sle Oct 2014. I didn't think I was going to get a ladder so I called the factory to see if the blocks were in place to add a ladder and the said they were. there shouldn't be any problem to add a ladder mine is on the left side of the rear, same side as the bedroom slide.

I have read in the past that, if one is not present, the support structure to support one was not installed. I also understand that if one is installed that support structure on the roof was installed to hold some weight. FR at 1-574-206-7603, this number is for April Conner, Customer Service.

Ladder
My 2013, 2604 had a ladder put on last year. FR has a great roof set up so you can safely walk on it if your carefull . Just be sure your dealer orders it from FR to be sure it matches your roof and wall for proper support and have them install it. I love the ladder!

My Georgetown 352XL, has a ladder. I wouldn't consider leaving before checking the roof and slide topper's for potential flying objects at 60 mph. Sticks and pine cones will pine tar stick to the toppers and get stuck in the canvas.

When I toured the Flagstaff plant, I asked how they knew which units got ladders and which ones did not. I was told that ALL Flagstaff units left the plant with blocking for either right or left mount. Not possible to add it behind the end cap from the outside! Bet a check with the plant to see if this is true with your model. I checked wth my dealer later and was told he does not order factory mounted ladders was to prevent people from Climbing units on sales lot. Go figure.

I have a factory mounted ladder but purchased one of these at harbor freight. Is much safer to use and can put it just about anywhere. 17 Ft. Type 1A Multi-Task Ladder
Typically you can find this ladder on sale or get a 20% off coupon to use on it.

I have the same 17 Ft Type 1a Multi Task Ladder which I keep in my 5er's basement. Folds up to 4 feet and can be used for so many things including getting up on the roof. My Factory ladder was the victim of a bone headed move on my part. Insurance paid for a new one, but I bought the multi tasker and made some mods with the extra money.
