Mods to our 2015 Forester MBS 2401WS

1. Added Weboost 4G-X cell phone booster. With 50db of gain, it really helps with weak signal out in the boonies. Usually let's me use my cell phone as a hotspot to feed internet to my laptop. Installed optional spring loaded trucker's antenna on top of ladder, since tree branches are attracted to RV roofs.... I'm happy with it but now I wish I had got the famous one that also boosts wifi (for Walmart camping). It's a box on the roof but i forgot the name.

2. Last month DW bumped the kitchen faucet when exiting, thus flooding the RV and killing the factory Progressive Dynamics 60 amp power converter (battery charger) below the sink (under the drawer). Tried to upgrade to their 80 amp model but it requires a 20 amp plug. So I used their 70 amp model.

3. Due to the above, I installed small ball valves in the 1/2" PEX kitchen faucet feed lines, under the sink. No more accidental floods! We don't use that sink much, except to store produce (in a basket). We mostly use paper plates for convenience.

4. Due to no 2 above, I learned all about the RV's electrical system. Took the opportunity to add a Victron BMS-700 battery monitoring system.

5. We leave in 3 weeks for Alaska and we boondock 90% of the time, so I replaced the cheap no-brand 100 AH factory batteries with a pair of Lifeline 125 AH (12V) deep cycles. There are the largest capacity I could find that physically fit into the battery well.

6. I'm about to finish replacing the stupid factory tank level display system (1/3 increments, black tank always wrong...) with a SeeLevel 709 system. It reads your tanks in 1% increments via flexible circuit board sensors that adhere to the OUTSIDE of your tanks, using your existing wiring. So accurate readings from now on!

I finished numbers 2 through 5 above this week, and should finish number 6 by tomorrow.

ALASKA OR BUST!
