Out side TV Replacement

I have a 2017 Forester 3171DS, and last night the outside TV fried. I had it on when I started up the generator and the screen went blank. Now I have half screen and the other half just lines. How do I replace this TV? I can not see behind it and cannot feel a bracket behind. Anyone know how to get it out?

Hold both sides of the tv about 2/3 down. With a slight rocking motion put a lot of upward pressure and it will pop out of the mount.

Generator shouldn’t have been a factor since the TV should be 12 volt. For replacement you’ll be able to use anything that fits as long as it’s 12 volt. Just remove the mount bracket from the back of the old TV...the mounting holes are universally set.

Thank you. I will try it when I get home. Boondocking now at s football game. The TV was working fine until I started up the generator - and then it went black.

The mount is a simple two piece design used since the outdoor TVs are usually mounted firm to the wall with no adjustment. They’re held in place by weight and pressure so no removal of bolts or screws when unmounting. Here’s a pix of a widely used mount for RVs.

That TV should be an A.C. not D.C.,120 volt AC not 12volt D.C..sealed compartment so any same size TV can be used

Really? Even though it was running off the battery before the generator was started up? No other 120 volt appliances will work without the generator running.

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. Every Forester I’ve seen the past few years had 12 volt DC televisions. Mine (3051) has three, all 12v.

Sorry,talked to friend who has one said he added convertor to his so he could have AC TV outside

Is the TV a Jensen 32"? If so, try calling them as they have fairly good tech support. Perhaps it just needs a reset of sorts and maybe it's still under warranty!

Follow up. I ended up purchasing a standard LG 32” Television and ordered the Duracell Inverter an earlier member recommended. Hooked it all up yesterday and it works fine. I had to find a television with side connections for the antenna and RCA cords as the mount/space would not permit one with back connections. All in all came out about $100 less than a 12V television.

Thanks for the follow up post. Glad you got it all worked out. You’re right about the rear mounting. There not a lot of room back there. My power and antenna connections are on the bottom of the TV but when I ran an HDMI cable for the AppleTV I had to use a 90 degree adapter to have enough room to plug the cable into the TV.

Since nobody pointed it out to you, your friend added an inverter to change the 12vdc to 120vac. A converter changes 120vac to 12vdc to charge your batteries and operate the 12vdc items such as the lights, fans, and 12vdc TV's. Though some inverters also contain a converter. You might want to tell your friend this too.
