Pink Stains on Ceiling

We have found pinkish stains on the soft surface ceiling in our Forester 3051S, and they seem to have gotten worse over time. I was told that this is caused by the adhesive used in the ceiling getting wet. Has anyone else had this problem? I have contacted Forest River Warranty (Mike Jankowski) and am waiting for a reply. If you had this problem, how was it corrected? I don't see a leak anywhere and we don't have water dripping into the interior.

We have a 2017 Forester as well and love it.

Do you possibly live in a high humidity environment? That's all it would take if you park or store with no climate control (air conditioner, heater or vent fan depending on time of year, to keep air circulated).

It's not impossible that it could be pink mold since you say it has gotten worse over time.

We live in GA and although we haven't seen any pink stains, we always keep some type of climate control on that keeps our humidity level around the 50% range, the same as we keep our house.

I may be completely off base but trapped moisture can cause all kinds of finish issues.

If unable to run climate control, look into using dessicant like Damp Rid to absorb moisture. Get enough so you can swap them out. They can be dried and reused.
Some have color indicators that let you know when to change them.

Haven't determined a cause yet...we have an appointment on 11/27 to take it in to Camping World for them to investigate further. It seems that the general consensus in talking to Forest River warranty dept and the folks at Camping World is that it is caused by moisture from somewhere. It could be high humidity possibly....we live in Oregon and it does get pretty damp and humid here in the winter, however we have kept a small heater going in it all last winter. There doesn't seem to be a leak, but they are going to check that out too. We'll see, but I imagine that that section of ceiling covering will have to be replaced. $$$?

Mine was a slow long term leak. Pull the vinyl down and stick your hand in to feel for moisture.

I'm getting a new 3051 soon so I thought I would ask a couple of question.

1)

Could you explain that to me as I dont understand that, why is there adhesive in the ceiling??

2) I never heard of pink mold...is that dangerous?

3) Is there a spray or compound that one could use to prevent something like this?

(1)The reason there is adhesive (glue) in the ceiling is that is how they attach the soft surface ceiling material to whatever is underneath it.

(2)I don't believe it is mold...I was just told that the adhesive turns pink when wet.

(3) Don't know, but I doubt there is any spray that would prevent it, as the pink stains are coming through from the inside of the ceiling covering.

Hopefully you/they can stop it from getting wet or mold may be in your near future.

What I’m wondering is, did the builders spill something on the upper ceiling while working on it and not clean it up thinking it would dry up...dunno, just a thought.

Yes. And find where the water was coming in. This may be a job for professionals, you can find some that are reliable and know what they are doing. Finding the entry point can be trying.

What did you do to get rid of the pink stains once the slow leak was fixed? I would imagine that you would have to replace the ceiling covering? How much of a repair was it?

I did not attempt to replace it. In my limited ability, that is a job for professionals, although I think I read that someone in one of the forums did it themselves. I don't have the patience or knowledge.

Camping World was doing a leak test today to determine if there is a slow leak somewhere. They pressurize the interior and then spray the roof area with a soapy solution to see if any bubbles appear indicating a leak. Have not gotten the results of their test yet...hopefully tomorrow (Weds). Stay tuned, will let you know what they find.

I am beginning to think this should be done at least every two years as preventative maintenance. I had this done the first year I had the rig. in the third year, I had leaks all summer. Arrrrrggghhh!!!
