Rain run off onto RV door when open

We have a Class C Forest River Forester 2017. I am looking for a solution to how I can prevent the rain from the awning from getting my RV door all wet. I cannot have my RV door open under the awning when it is raining due to the location of the door and the awning. The awning and the RV door are directly behind the passenger cab door. Does anyone have an idea of how I can deflect the water and enjoy having my RV door open during the rain? Thanks. Dawn

Thanks bunches. This idea of the rain gutters solves another issue I have with my windows. I will attempt to upload a picture to help show what I am trying to resolve with the door and awning. The awning does not extend beyond the door due to the location of the cab door. Appreciate your input. Dawn

We have a 2017 Forest River Forester 3011DS. The door is located directly behind the passenger seat. The awning does not extend beyond the door due to its location thus allowing the rain runoff down the open door. We had this one custom built. Thanks all.

The awning should open all the way out even with the door open. Maybe one of the supports is catching on the door keeping it from opening. Try having the door only half way open when you extend the awning. If it opens, there is an adjustment on the piston on the bottom of the door so it wont open as far and hit the awning supports.

Thanks everyone. I am sorry this is so confusing. The picture with the awning of the Forester 3011DS partially extended was only to show where the edge/end of the awning met the top of the door when it is open. There is nothing wrong with the awning. Actually it is only partially extended due to the location of where our RV is parked at the house. My problem is that the door is not protected by the awning from the rain run off. I would like to open it during the rain, but cannot because of the deluge of water cascading down the inside of the door when open. I just need some idea of how to direct the run off away from the inside of my RV door. I realize that where the RV door is located is the problem. Not an RV flaw. We chose to have our entrance into the RV behind the passenger door to allow a longer kitchen counter and to allow the passenger seat to be turned into the living area. Dawn if I'm reading your issue correctly, can you lower, and tighten down the far side of the awning ? Allowing for the rain to flow to the opposite side / rear of your unit ?

Hey there thanks. Yes I can tip it, but unfortunately the door is still exposed to the rain because the length of the awning (that runs down the side of the RV from front to back ) does not cover it when the door is in its open position. In other words, the door is not completely under the awning for protection . I hope this helps. Thanks Dawn

I think I understand...... The awning isn't LONG enough, front to back, to be over the rv door. Sounds like you need a longer awning???
If you can give us a picture of a side view of the camper we may have a better idea for a solution.

Unfortunately there isn't much you are going to be able to do.
To install a longer awning you'd need more room towards the front of your vehicle to mount the arms/bracket. It looks like yours is already as far forward as possible.

Short of rigging some sort of auxiliary, stationary awning that would clamp to the arm, (which you would have to install and remove every time you opened/closed the awning) I think you are stuck with what you have.

Springerdad, You got it!!! Thanks. However, the Forest River Forester 3011DS 2017 Class C we have does not allow the awning to be any longer due to the location of the passenger cab entry door. So my dilemma is how can I improvise and enjoy using my screen door during the rain? I will see if I can get a picture of the RV in the yard. Due to the location of where we keep it I cannot fully extend the awning but you should be able to see where the end of the awning is directly over and in line with the RV door. Hope this works. Here goes.

KJCachers, Hello you two. No, no doors were moved. We ordered this particular Forester 2017 3011DS with custom options. It took 3 months. The model itself had the door where it is located. No doors were moved. We wanted/chose this one with the door directly behind the passenger seat rather than having a door further down the side. That would have been the 3051. We liked the long kitchen counter on the passenger side and wanted the passenger seat to be able to swivel. I did not realize that I would have a problem with the location of the door and the awning during the rain. We love this RV and I can live with the awning/door issue. It doesn't always rain. Just was looking to see if anyone else had the same Forester 3011DS and how they managed it. Thank you. Dawn

Dawn. I see in that last picture your situation. There's nowhere to mount the awning bracket forward of where it is, so that's all you'll get. Somebody mentioned a detachable add on to give you more coverage. I think That's going to be your best solution. That's a shame they designed it that way. My SOB TT has a similar problem, the door is only 1 foot forward of the slide, and the awning barely covers it. Luckily the slide is there to buffer any wind driven rain. Our setup hasn't been a real problem for us yet as we haven't experienced any heavy rains. Yet.

Use awning poles and manually tilt the awning so it drains away from the door.

Thank you everyone for your suggestions. This is all new to me (using this forum) and hope I can help others down the road later. We sold our 40' Raptor toy hauler and the Ford 350 so we could get into something shorter with less hassle and easier to get in and out of parks. We should have done this 3 years ago. Love it!!

What happens if the door is only half open?

It appears to me when the awning is out, the door can only open half way because of the awning arms.
