Satellite Prep

We are considering a Forester class C Floorplan 2291 and reading the brochure, I did not see satellite prep listed. I would like to install a Winegard T 4 dome satellite and need to know if this is possible. Has anyone installed a dome satellite dish on a Forester and was this difficult. Thanks

portable sat antenna don't need to be 'mounted' and wired to the roof, though some do that... it's probably easier and less expensive to just carry it yourself, and put it out on the ground when you arrive - since you can't watch it while driving anyway.

Ours rides on the rear of the roof, at the ladder area, with a temporary 'mount', and sometimes we leave it there if the satellites are in view from where we park, but most of the time I have to move it somewhere else on the roof, or mostly down somewhere on the ground around the coach. I just leave 50' of coax cable attached to it, and the cabling runs down over the edge, into the top corner of the slide, and to my Receiver. The extra cable is wrapped around the air conditioner cowling... works great... and easy.

I installed a satellite on my Forester. It is a 2016 and was prepped for satellite. There was a cable terminal on the roof in front of the AC unit. The connection terminated in the cabinet above the door where there was also an HDMI plug that was connected to the main TV. Very easy install.

Was there just a coax ? Where did you get 12volt power for the satellite? Thanks

It is just a coax. My King Tailgator Pro gets 12v power through the coax so no need for a separate 12v power source.

I just purchased a 2019 Forester 3051S and it came equipped with the satellite connection on the roof but I am considering putting in one near the tv. The cable runs to the cabinet above the couch and from there is a HDMI plug for the TV. I bought an exterior coax plug similar to the one on the back for cable tv. I plan on drilling a hole and running the cable to the underside of the cab to the external coax plug. The reason for this is the remote will not work while sitting on the couch and the Direct TV receiver in the cabinet above us. I will build a bracket that bolts to the TV bracket and mount the receiver above the TV. I keep my satellite dish movable so I can set it wherever I need to get a good signal. A 100’ coax cable works great.

I believe the coax to roof is standard, mine is buried in dicor sealant.

On our Sunseeker 2250, the satellite port is located just in front of the AC:

and the coax is in the entertainment center over the door: (apologies for the blurry image)

Yours, obviously, may be different, if at all.

We don't use satellite, so can't tell you much beyond that.
