Shake down trip report

So, the past few days my wife and I took the 3051S on a shakedown trip with our new TOAD. We've been on 2 weekend camping trips with the RV, but we just finished getting everything for the TOAD.

So, we went to a super deluxe RV resort in Kerrville, TX about 65 miles from home and stayed one night in a pull thru. Next day, we drove about 30 miles to a quaint little German town, Fredricksburg, TX, for the day/night and took the TOAD into town and such.

Then today hooked everything up and drove home stopping for Gas (twice) just to test that operation out, too We were only going to stop once but the first place we stopped at was having pump problems.

That was the goal of this trip - testing the common scenarios for a big trip we have coming up.

All went very well, and we really enjoyed our little trip. It reminded us to get out and about close to home more.

The TOAD is a 2013 Fiat 500 POP (2,200 lbs light!) with a BlueOx Baseplate, BlueOx Alpha Towbar, Brake Buddy Aux Braking System. It tows great. I doubt we need the Aux Brake System but my wife said "it's the law so we need it."

Here's the RV & TOAD Buckhorn Lake RV Resort, in Kerrville, TX.

By the way, there were no issues with the RV. Everything worked as designed (well, we have that DVD won't play on the main TV problem still). Except that we were once again reminded that the 15K A/C cannot keep up with temps over 95.

We owned Arctic Fox Travel Trailers for the past 15 years, so we are VERY spoiled when it comes to good insulation. The little bit of foam in the walls and ceiling of the Forester are not in the same league. You can put a hand on a wall and feel the heat. In an Arctic Fox, you have twice the R-value in the walls and about 3-times in the ceiling. Massive difference.

And, while I'm at it with this complaint - the Forester's windows are really cheap and thin and a big contributor to the overheating of the RV.

It's a great plastic cloth cover made for Class C cabs from a place in Arizona. Here's a link: Motorhome RV Windshield Covers Class C - Sunpro Mfg

It's kind of expensive ($179) but it fits like a glove - blocks 90% of light and yet when it's on and you're inside you can still see out enough to see if someone's outside your RV.

We love it.

If you haven't been to Buckhorn in a while they've built at "Club" section with about 35 RV/Cassita spots that are just plain beautiful. They aren't selling them - they are leasing them long term for 30 years. It's Class A restricted but many of the "cassitas" are more like homes - some two story. Lot's with gorgeous patios, outside kitchens and big stone fireplaces. There are small streams running throughout the area and lots of big trees.

We didn't ask the price, but there were about 8 available as lease take-overs.

Here's a photo of one with the golf cart garage door open and the cart in the RV driveway.

Creativepart, I ordered and received my window cover. I like it...now if I ever get my coach I will see if it fits.
