I did 2 coats of white flex seal (I didn't want to see the black flex seal on the inside of my 5th), 2 coats of black flex seal to keep the light out (DW says I am a vampire, I don't like the light coming in the camper, I don't like sun roofs either) then another 2 coats of white to reflect the light. I had to replace my sky light once already (stupid low branches), I replaced it with another sky light, if I have to replace it again, I am replacing it with a flat piece of black plexiglass and 4 coats of white flex seal to keep the plexiglass in good shape and to match the color of the inside my bathroom where the sky light is located. IMO sky light are one of the stupidest things they put on a camper.

Skylights

We bought square inserts with white fuzzy material covering foam at an RV store. They are made specifically for RV skylights. They are terrific. Works great on hot days or cold nights. We have 3 skylights and 3 cushion inserts that you just push in.

My Solution Working Well

My skylight in the shower made it a sauna. After much look-see for product solutions I settled on a stretchable baby car window shade (Dreambaby Adjusta-Car Shade). Low cost (ordered from Amazon), took the suction cups off (easily removed), removed 4 screws from the skylight frame, replaced the suction cups with washers and installed using original screws and screw holes. No blackout effect, just filtered light. And no more sauna and can always be “undone” with reverse process.

Thats not a bad suggestion and welcome to the FRF. I understand you have a new Forester of some kind. It would be helpful if you include your model in your public profile so if you have a question, folks with specific knowledge can chime in. Easier for them (less teeth pulling) and better for you.

As for the skylight blind, those who have them know that they are of benefit but not the solution if you camp in hot/sunny locations. They also do not work in showers. So that is why we are discussing other solutions. Lots of good ideas have surfaced but some concerns as well.

As for the “search” idea, you could save time by going to post #10 where you can find a link with the work already done for you.

Skylight

Our 2017 "Puma" has the shade for the skylight over the kitchen island but it is not dark enough to do any good. The whole kitchen gets very bright and hot during the day. I took a dark blue work towel and inserted it between the shade and the dome and reduced 80-85 % of the sunlight. Trying to get Palomino "Puma" or Forest River to send me a darker shade or at least tell me where to get one.

Tha ks for the tip. Will look into that.

I am sure that could help,,, not sure what kind of a job it might be putting that in the Skylight ??? The thing about painting our plastic vent covers & Skylight is it should help protect the plastic itself !!!

We did the foam cushion thing. I thought it looked terrible. So I went to the local automotive paint store and they used their color camera to match up the champagne color (we have full body paint) then they put it in a spray can. I painted all of the skylights and the AC cover. It looks factory and REALLY cuts down on the heat

Corn-Fuzed

There seems to be a lot of subject matter confusion so this is an attempt to clarify. In the attached photo there is a vent and a skylight. The vent is a standard 14”x14” hole and that is where the “fuzzy plugs” are commonly utilized. The skylight is not and I have never seen or heard of anybody using a “fuzzy plug/foam cushion/pillow” in a skylight. Mostly because the sides are not vertical. That said, I’m sure Mr. Goldberg can come up with one.
Note: The vent pictured below has a fan in it.
Also notable is that the OP is talking about a skylight and he gave the dimensions.

Ok. Here are the pics of one I finally finished. Will be using command Velcro strips on the inside of the skylight to install so will be removable.

Initial piece of the chrome bubble wrap cut to fit the inside lip dimensions.

Then sewed a layer of microwaveable material on the side that will be facing inside the coach. This is made for putting potatoes in and cooking in the microwave so should be good lite weight insulation material.

Next a layer of better looking material. Waiting for the wife to pick some decorative material if she want to dress it up and I’ll make another using that.

Then on the side that will face the skylight Velcro all the way around.

Will be doing the same thing for the skylight above our bathroom sink.

Will be going out to storage this week so will post the installed pic then but I think you get the idea.

Maybe $10 total in materials not counting the sewing machine I bought.

Will just cover the clear part and the lip around that where it is all the same height.
