Tire question (sorry, I know another tired question)

OK, so we are just starting to talk about new tires for our Forrester 2401W. We bought it two years ago and it came with Continental tires which seem to have been a good tire so far (21,000 miles on them and local tire shop said they still look good)

But, we plan to put another 5,000 miles on them this summer and then possibly do a cross country trip in the fall = I want to error on the side of caution and have new tires before then.

I don't want to spend a fortune, but we are more than WILLING to buy the best, both for peace of mind as well as giving us the best "chance" of problem free traveling.

I read the most about the Goodyear Endurance. Our local Cooper tire store does not carry them, but would order them in for us = $2,300 out the door (yes, YIKES!) They are saying their Cooper HT3 tires are great for a rig like ours, but I don't seem to recall reading the many, many tire threads and reading about Cooper (we always run Cooper on our cars/trucks and are happy with them, but the motorhome is a different beast) The Coopers are $1,200 out the door.

I'm looking for opinions on the best tire. I hesitate to go with Coopers just because I'm not seeing many RV people using them?

I guess I'm just looking for opinions on the two.

You have a motorhome. The Goodyear Endurance is a trailer only tire.

I bought Michelins from tire rack. Had them shipped to my preferred local shop, who installed them.
I got about 33K miles from the original equipment Continentals, then about 55K from Michelins I bought from Costco. In my opinion, the Michelins drove better than the Continentals, in addition to lasting longer. I think the Michelins improved sway more the the Hellwig sway bar.
I didn’t return to Costco because I had two valve stem failures with their install - they used metal core “high pressure” rubber snap-in valve stems, same as the original Continentals used (I eventually had them replaced with metal bolt-in stems). Costco had no metal bolt-in stems that were compatible with the Sprinter wheels.

Everyone has an opinion I will never use Michelin's again as I have had a lot of trouble out of them. Pure junk, and wear out very fast. Just my opinion China bombs are better......

I have The Roadmaster RM150 made by Cooper. They do a great job and economical. 5 years on them now and will replaced with The Roadmaster.

why in the world would you already need 'new' tires ust because you are using the motorhome as it is built for? 21,000 miles plus even the miles you 'plan' on using it for are exactly what the ones you already have are designed for.....Tires can go a LONG way and for a long time before needing to be 'replaced'... are you suddenly suffering some tire problems?? are you low on 'tread' depth all of a sudden??

mine had 80,000 miles on them over more than 4 years before they got any attention...
all over this great country - no issues...

X2! 12 tires and nothing but trouble! Trying Firestones now and will see how they work. Great so far!

I have 19,000 on my Lexington, tons of tread, trouble is it is a 2009, tires can only be used for 10 years. Time for new tires, have been looking am going this week to a couple truck tire installers to get a quote. Not going back to the dealer, last year had it inspected, over $800.00 and zero, nada nothing wrong. 2 oil changes. V-10 and generator, state inspection and new windshield wipers Ford 450. They charged $97.00. This cost him my business. Hopefully will find some name brand tires at a reasonable price. Just got Michelin's from Costco for my 2016 Expedition, very pleased, good pricing. Love them. They cannot change 10 ply tires on the 450, takes heavy truck tire machine.

12 M tires in 6 years. 2 fronts and 2 rears. Throwing a tread in front is a problem with a tire. A front tire feeling like it went square, is a tire problem. So you can love them, I think over priced!

I realize that some people swear by Michelin, but x2 on what Oaklevel said.

I'll never put Michelin tires on a vehicle of mine again. Set of 6 and three blow outs in 2 years. The first blow out was after 30 days.

Not only were the tires bad but the customer service was bad also.

The Michelin tire issues were not just on my motor home. When I researched the issue there were many RV owners exprssing the same problems: Bad tires and poor customer service.

Michelin may now have corrected the RV tire issue and may now have great customer service. Because of my history with them, i wouldn't put them on my RV if they were free.

Be sure to do your on-line search of other RV owner experiences/reviews with Michelin and any tire you plan to put on your RV. You are getting some here. Look for more.

Let's see...

First there were the Firestone 500s. They were a steel-belted radial in the 1970s. Due to a fundamental problem in design or construction, virtually all of them suffered from tread separation. On October 20, 1978, Firestone recalled 7 million of them, still the largest tire recall in history. The 500s were replaced with Firestone 721s. Reference Also see this one.

The next fiasco was the Firestone 721 in around 2000. Apparently something changed in the design or manufacturing process and that old bugaboo, tread separation struck again. Reference

And if that weren't bad enough, at about the same time came the recalls of the Wilderness AT, ATX, and ATXII tires. You probably remember this one. It involved Ford Explorers, Mercury Mountaineer (same vehicle), Ford Ranger and F150 pickups, and the Mazda Navajo (also a Ford Explorer) and Bxxx pickup (Ford Ranger). A rear tire would fail and the vehicle would roll. How did the tires fail? Well...tread separation once again. There were hundreds of crashes and dozens of fatalities--on top of those caused by the 500s and 721. Not only did they have to recall 6.5 million tires (out of 14.4 million produced), but they lost Ford Motor Company as a customer.

A32, you and I think alike on a lot of things, but we have to differ on this one. I will never have Firestone tires on any vehicle. I have more stories but this is getting too long.
