TV/Cable/sat wiring

VWE - yes, it's a dish set up. You can get Direct TV portable dishes from King but they cost more and the programming is in SD only. No HD. Dish has HD and SD from their RV Dish.

SCD - I hear you. We have had Dish TV at home for 17 years. We don't watch it all that much, but have our favorites. So, it's nice to have. We don't miss it when we can't get it. But if we can, and it's no hassle then we'll set it up just for whenever.

We've talked about trying boondocking, but we're pretty picky.

Before we bought our first Travel Trailer (Nash 16T in 2003) I used to tell folks my wife would only go camping if it was at a Four Seasons Hotel. But we lived in Jackson Hole, Wyoming at the time and there was so much great camping all around that she suggested we get the TT.

We had 3 TTs over 15 years when we found the Forester and fell in love with it. Before this, I was absolutely sure my wife would never say lets buy a motorhome. But one look at the 3051 and she's the one that wanted to buy it on the spot.

Will we ever move on to boondocking? We've discussed it and we'll have to wait and see.

My first post, hope I do this right. I have a simple diagram I made of how my 2015 Flagstaff 8528 RLIKWS Super Lite is wired hope this can be of some use to anyone. I use the Aux in for my portable satellite (King VQ4510/Dish) because it is a direct line to the receiver connection and has the least amount of interference.

Hi Nitroxron - thanks for the info. Might I suggest you post this over on the Flagstaff forum? There's nothing wrong with posting it in the Forester Motorhome forum but it would help more folks over in the Flagstaff forum.

I wish our Foresters had a "Aux in" coax connection, but we have only a single cable connection on the side of the coach. Maybe it's because we have a rooftop coax connection for roof SAT mounting. It sounds logical.

CreativePart, I have this posted on my topic, but thought I might ask again here. Bought the Winegard Pathway X1 and moved my working ViP211z out to the MH. It works great when hooked up directly but not when routed thru the outdoor cable connection. I've tried all the plugs especially the top one as you indicated. I've also tested my jumper from the wall connection to the receiver and that is fine.
I must have a different wiring with the plate than you. As mentioned many times, the X1 must not have any other connections as to prevent current not reaching the dish.

Don't know what to tell you Sage. I never tried my X1 through the outside cable input - only my Carryout. Which works great with that set up. I've only connected my X1 through the cable on the roof. Which also works great.

I think it's possible that the top coax connector is split somewhere behind that plate. And this could be your issue. Why not open that plate and see if you can get to a straight run to the outside cable connection?

Thanks, was going to do that but I have to level the MH and put out the slide to have easy access. Going to do it later today or early tomorrow.
I did pickup a flat coax cable just in case.

Pulled off the covers and the bottom is just 3 wires to 3 connectors. the upper one with the 12v plug and OTA amp switch has 3 wires coming in along with 12v wiring. I have a diagram of the wiring from Winegard somewhere. Perhaps it can remove one wire and reconnect it to the bottom plate.

From the diagram, it looks like the coax in the middle in example 2 is from the outside.

The flat one works great and you can close a window and latch with no leaks. I have been using one since 2012.

After much research, I believe my best option is to forget the existing wall connectors and outdoor cable connection. I can install a dedicate coax cable and not have any issues. Since we want to have the satellite dish in sight, I may run the coax from the passenger side by the outdoor entertainment center thru to under the sofa and follow the route for the inverter power cord to the receiver. In the mean time, I do have the flat coax cable to use thru the window or cab doors.

Can you explain this? I may help others that find this thread in the future.

Also, it's not a great solution but since I know the X1 works great through the rooftop connection you might be able to use that by running a coax from there back to the ladder and then down the backside of the ladder. It's just a thought.
