Where would you put a 2nd A/C unit?

We have the 15K A/C and we've put reflective material in all the skylights, insulation pillows in each of the 3 ceiling vents and an effective shade in the cab windows. But the A/C isn't keeping up.

It's 95 here (and is most days in the Summer in South Texas). This morning the RV was a cool 70 degrees. As it's heated up outside the interior temp is up to 76 even with the A/C running full blast all day.

Seems a 2nd AC unit is called for.

I can't decide whether to put a a little 8.5K BTU A/C unit in the bedroom where the ceiling vent is -- or put a 13.5 K BTU A/C unit in the living room up front where the Fantastic Fan is.

Has anyone undertaken this project? Where does the factory install a 2nd A/C in a 3051 or similar sized RV?

Only 76 degrees inside at 95 outside. Sounds cool enough to me. Later RJD

bedroom is common...be nice to save the fantastic fan for those days to just turn over air. you may want that extra light there too. I guess sound would be the main concern and if that would a concern. I usually run surface mount to get the power there. I have no idea if your prewired. I have not done your model coach.

We'd save the Fantastic Fan, just put it in one of the other locations, that's all.

Had a 2nd 13.5 in a Tioga. It was in the front fantastic fan spot and was not ducted. Needed to be installed where the roof was already supported. 30 Amp would not carry both ACs. Generator was oversized to carry both and they could only both be run on gen.

That's good info - I hadn't considered the power/gen wattage issues.

We put up some of the reflective bubble wrap style sheeting in the back window in the bedroom. That has helped a bunch. LOTS of Sun/heat comes in there even with the shade down.

Maybe it's a good place for an MCD blackout shade. I'd rather have an effective shade on a roller than a big piece of reflective insulation in the back window.

We blocked off all of the skylights/fans except the one in the shower with that reflective insulation material. We kept those shades closed anyway. So, putting the insulation in there and closing the shades keeps out a ton of heat and makes the RV more comfortable.

The RV was at 70 degrees this AM. It's almost 1pm and with the A/C running non-stop it's risen to 72 degrees. It's about 90 outside with a high of 97 expected.

Living in South Texas we limit all of our RV trips to Spring, Fall and Winter. But we're taking the RV for further shake down this week to a State Park 90 miles away.

You can add a second unit and run a cord to your electrical area for storage and just plug it into the 120V on the campground box. This will not have any effect on your 30A. I would go with the 13.5K. CW has them on sale for lees than $700

If most of your camping is as you said why bother for one time? seems a waste. Later RJD

You can't count on lower temps in those supposedly cooler months. I've seen it over 100 in February, believe it or not. We'll probably not do anything until we've seen how it RV stays cool over a typical year.

So very true. Here in Georgia the best camping in my opinion is in the fall and early winter. Spring is nice too ahead of the pine pollen. I've worn shorts at Christmas before. Summer months can me quite oppressive.

Just installed a second ac, Atwood air command 15k, in the bedroom. 30a service, so we wired it to a separate breaker near the converter, and just plug it into the 20a pedestal. Works awesome. Single ac just didn't do it in the 3050 we have.

That's what I was thinking of doing, putting the second AC in the bedroom and using a second 20 amp feed for it. Probably would also makeup an adaptor to run off a 50amp service if that's what was available. The main reason I am considering it is noise. The ducts run right alongside the bedroom vent so the AC could feed into them just like the front AC. Then during the day when you are mostly in the living area you can run the rear AC and vice versa at night when you are sleeping in the rear you can run the front AC. If it's really hot run both.

+1 on that... We avoid camping during the summer due to the heat, humidity, and crowds. My dealer felt bad that we would miss the "season" with our MBS order taking from late May until late August. I told him we weren't "missing" anything!

Maybe all you need is a de-humidifier ???
What sort of temp drop do you get with A/C on ???

Mattnlisa, Did you find any pre-existing wiring to the rear vent area or did you have to fish in a totally new feed?
