That thing is called an anti-bellow device I think. Either way it is supposed to hit the stop on the sidewall to prevent unrolling going down the road, should a spring break or something. Mine only has 1 screw securing it. You could probably add another if you want. As for the slide, if be willing to bet you're ok since it functioned fine. Digging into, or should I say accessing the drive shaft, gear box and motor is a REAL pain on the above floor slides, at least mine is. I had battle scars from adjusting ours. Not a friendly set up.
