windshield mount GPS

Hello
I need to replace the GPS in my pickup. I hopped to use the same gps in a Forester which we plan on buying this summer.

The question is, will a windshield mount internal antenna work ok with the overhead bunk blocking some of the sky?

I believe I read that the built in gps uses an external antenna?

thanks.
Fran

We used our Garmin GPS with it just sitting in the cup holder in our 3051s with no problems at all.
It worked flawlessly. We had not used the built in GPS and wanted to get underway so grabbed it and started out with it.
Interesting enough once we had played with the built in one we ran with both from Buffalo to Ft Myers FL. and found that they followed different routes at times.
We did by the way find the way to turn off the speed announcement on the built in GPS which had become particularly annoying as it was constantly announcing we were in a 50 MPH zone when we were in a 60 or 65 posted MPH zone.
The voice on/off is in the menu system around the same area as the setting for speed allowance over the posted speed bar.

I do not have the factory installed GPS and have used my Garmin for 3 seasons and it has performed fine just like in my car. No problems with the cab overhang. IMO Garmins are so much better and easier to use than any other brand including the factory installed ones except for Chrysler products which also use a Garmin based system.
