We're planning a trip to Yellowstone this year as well. Possible stops at The Mall of America, Kirks birth place, Badlands, Mt. Rushmore, and a few others.....Waiting to hear back from Grizzly...no anwser from office so I did it online. Hopefully we can get a site July 10th to 17th. Wifes planning the itinerary with a few have to's from me. Still trying to decide what route to take in pulling the toad?

Good thing I found this now. My Father-in-law is renting a cabin at Island Park, ID in June. Taking a week before and after to take the family cross country. Thanks for all the great planning info.
One question, what are the pro's and con's of staying at the state parks vice private campgounds?

Old Faithfull always #1 on your A list

BUT here’s a twist.
JB is the one in pink.

Be here http://www.nps.gov/features/yell/live/live4.htm

At the right time and have someone on the internet capture it with you in the picture.

Watch it for a few minutes WHEN the sun is UP!

Here’s the “live webcam” link

Got a confirmation email from Grizzly today. Will be there june25th to July 2nd. Also calming at fishing bridge on the 24th. Will be at Mount Roushmoore and Deadwood from June 19th to 23rd. Now the wait begins. Only thing left to book is rental car in West Yellowstone. Anyone have any info on Budget or big Sky Rental? As far as which would be best. I always rent with National, but no National there.

Kathy and I have visited Yellowstone in both mid-May and Mid September. If you want to wee more wildlife, you will much more at these times, and the crowds are sparse.

You do need at least 6-7 days to see everything.

The drive north from Jackson Hole to Yellowstone is a smooth ride. Again, if you go early in the year or after the summer rush, you'll be able to use the turnouts and viewpoints along the way.

The park entrance will provide you with excellent maps. This is a good starting URL:

You will love Yellowstone!! We have been there 3 times. Everytime we have been there it has snowed. The kids loved it. We had 14" of snow on June 13th, the other 2 time it was June 21 & 27(only a few inches) All 3 times the snow was gone by the next day!! Don't let snow deter you. It is worth seeing. We are from Mn so the snow did not stop us. If you like to hike, you need to take the stairs to the bottom of the lower falls, & also up Washington Mt. Usually see grizzly bear (from a distance) & alot of wildflowers & scenery. We have not taken our windjammer out yet, we did these trips in a tent trailer, so camping I can not help. Alot of driving, so take your time!!! It helps to focus on one area a day. For example, if you are going to Mammoth Springs, get there & do everything you want to do in that area! Have a great time!!! You will love it!!!

Don't let these pictures scare you off but this is an idea of the ammount of snow we encountered on our trip out to Yellowstone/Grand Tetons last summer the first two weeks of June.

Even with the snow (6" the first night there, then 2" and 1" the next two nights) we had an excellent time. The Tetons are beautiful with a nice white covering of snow, even from the top of the mountain in Jackson Hole (the cable car ride up to the top is a must see).
