America's newest National Park

In February, Pinnacles National Monument became Pinnacles National Park. As someone who lives nearby, I wanted to let people know that it's a worthwhile place to visit and a great place to camp if you're in the Northern/Central California area.

There are entrances on the East and West sides of the park but all the services are on the eastern side off Hwy 25.

The campground has an area with electrical hookups only, but a nicer area if you can live without electricity. The sites have plenty of space and there is a creek that flows through the campground. There is a store with basic supplies and a pool.

The Park itself is known for it's geologic features and also for being one of the few sites where they are trying to bring back the Condor population. There is a nature center and some good hiking trails that will take you to the high peaks where the rock spires can be seen close up.

By no means does this park have the majestic beauty of Yosemite or some others, but it also does not have crowds, or at least not yet, and is very enjoyable.

Spring is a great time to visit as the hills are green and wildflowers are out and the climate is nice. It can get quite warm in the summer with temps over 100 if you hike up near the top.

Hwy 25 is also a very scenic ride through farm and ranch land. It has some pretty tight curves in a few areas but nothing as challenging as what you might find on highway 1.
