Was through there end of March, not really that bad, fairly high up, lots of grade, curvy for sure but one thing I noticed was everyone was really taking there time so there was no pressure and a really nice drive. Having said that I was in a 28ft motorhome which is way shorter than your rig, so ya maybe not. If you do get into Death Valley make sure you head out west toward Panamint Springs and stop for a burger at the restaurant there.
We stayed at furnace creek campground which is right beside Ranger Station/ Interpretive center, no hookups and gennys can be run all night, $18/night but wasn't that hot so most gennys were off at night. Other side of road very large state park campsite, full hookups and basically a gravel parking lot. $35/ night?. At the time furnace creek resort was being remodelled so may be different now.
I hope the new owners don't change much as it is a real nice resort. With your campsite fee, the pool (Olympic size or bigger), was free and hardly being used (hot spring fed).
Death Valley is a beautiful place, lots to see. Been there twice in late March now and will probably do the same this year. Enjoy! By the way, late March and it was starting to get very hot.
