California Highway 101 over to Route 1

Wondering the best route to get from Highway 101 (Cloverdale area)over to the coast. We are staying in the KOA in Manchester, I know the roads can be tricky, The straightest shot I see is Hwy 128 and then go south. Some of those mountain roads are tricky with a 30' trailer. Any thoughts ?

either 128 or 253 is doable.
128 is very curvy and 253 is steep on both sides.
We had a 25ft trailer and no problems on 128.
I grew up in Cloverdale.
