Carlsbad Caverns / Moab Dec & Jan trip

We're thinking of Carlsbad Caverns and Moab / Arches as destinations for the next 2 weeks (Dec / Jan)

Thoughts, Ideas, Suggestions welcome!!

We have children ages 8,8, & 6.

Has anyone been to Carlsbad Caverns? Any campground suggestions - tips - things to avoid? Local restaurants worth trying?

If you type in Carlsbad Caverns in the search option in the green banner towards the top of the page it will bring up links to previous discussions on this topic.

Hopefully others will be able to offer some feedback to your questions.

Thanks Terier! I did try the search - nothing about winter camping in that area. "winter" meaning time of year, because the temperatures there, 68F / 34F, seem much less winterlike than my current minus 21c -6F.

We camped in Carlsbad, NM for about ten days the end of November, 2011. The weather was fine, the Caverns are great for kids and adults alike. I suggest you go on line at the Carlsbad Caverns site and sign up for a couple of their tours. You can purchase tickets on line ahead of time and the tickets are flexible with the dates...good anytime between this date and that date. We stayed in a private campground that had just been bought by another company. It was okay but I don't know anything about it since it just changed hands.

We're starying in an RV park in Carlsbad (no actual camping at the National Park. It's cold and windy 44F but the Caverns are a constant 56F We're looking for the next destination!
