Casper, WY to West Yellowstone, MT

40 foot fifth wheel, GMC Dually.

Take US 26? Or go all the way around via I-90 in MT?

Comments???

Ihave not traveled these routes with a 5er, but have on a motorcycle.
i would take US 26to Moran then go US 287 to West Thumb. From there you can go to West Yellowstone. I have seen many large RVs traveling in the park. Travel can be pretty slow at times tho.
Good luck. Hope to pull my 5er to West Yellowstone some day.

Not much feedback here, but I've rerouted. I'm now going out of Fountain, CO up I-25 to Ft. Collins, then US 287 to Riverton (a couple of miles out of the way but found a nice overnight there). Then US 26 to 191 to West Yellowstone.

287 in Wyoming is a beautiful route. Drive safe.

I just now found this post. That a good route you’ve chosen. When we go that way we take I-80 to Rawlins to hwy 287 and stop in Lander, WY for a night or two. Near Lander there is a beautiful state park called Sinks Canyon and worth a drive through.

Also about 20 miles north of Lander on the Wind River Reservation is the gravesite of Sacajawea in an old cemetery named after her.

From Dubois to West Yellowstone you will cross the continental divide 4 times.

The US 287 route gives you the added benefit of views of the Tetons in Grand Teton NP from the east side of Jackson Lake, IMHO as beautiful as anything you will see in Yellowstone NP. But too bad that all you will see of Colorado is I-25 and a short section of US 287. We have some beautiful mountain scenery too!

Excellent plan to go to West Yellowstone and then the toad into the park. Your original plan would work, but can be slow with traffic. Beautiful country! When you going?

PS: I was born and raised in Searcy, had lots of kin in Conway.
