Closed Yosemite

We are flying and renting a house just 20 miles of the south of the southern gate. Is there any recent recon on what to expect? We have some word that there is limited admittance to the park. Just our luck we have been planning this for some time.

According to their website the facilities are all closed but you may drive through Yosemite N.P. using the main road but no stopping or recreation is allowed. Sorry for you.

We've had reservations for three days next week at Upper Pines campground since before The Fire. All politickin' aside, IF they don't open in time we're still planning to go!

I would stop and do as I pleased along "my" road.
"This land is your land,
This land is my land..."
Please go and enjoy the land I've paid for you to use.
Tell "them" to call me if they have a problem with you being there.

Generally that is called trespassing and is a violation of law no matter how strongly you feel otherwise. If the campground is closed, you aren't going no matter how much of a right you feel to have.

Personally, I would make alternate plans. I would rather spend my vacation camping at a KOA than in jail (and the camper in an impound lot).

X2

And I bet that the impound yard doesn't have full hookups either.

A 72 hour hold in a psych unit is beginning to intrigue me as a potential vacation opportunity.

Canada is still open for business. Many parks are closing this weekend but the fall colours are great.

There have been reports of rest areas being closed and outside water faucet handles being removed. I don't think a sense of humor to squatters on the right of way should be expected, is all.

My friend has taken pictures of the "missing" water faucet handles.

From my friend on the East coast;
"All the pump handles from the water spigots in the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal National Historical Park were removed as part of the government shutdown. Seems kinda silly to me to do this in a park that is virtually unmanned, open and with no entrance fees.
The places where I entered the park on my bike were not barricaded, taped or signed...only the gates to parking lot were closed and the outhouses were locked and signed. I was on the trail on Sunday and it was being heavily used. It doesn't seem the smart test was applied to the closure of open parks, memorials and cemeteries/battlefields.
In the six miles of trail that I normally use, all three spigots had their handles had been removed...and the entire trail is 185 miles long! They paid staff to travel the entire length, some of them are difficult to access with vehicles, to remove around 90 handles!
