However, that being said, the traffic in and around Denver is NOTHING like ANY of the cities on the east coast or Midwest. We pretty much do have a rush hour here that lasts for an hour or so and it is pretty clear the rest of the time.

Rocky Mountain paradise, (but don't tell anyone) they might move here...

Bob, it was built by and is operated by a German company. The state of Colorado gets a percentage of the tolls, but the German company gets the bulk of the money. I was told, though, that the private company is responsible for maintaining it, including snow removal.

By the time I turned the car in at the airport, the toll amount was already there, waiting for me, and added to my rental bill. I wonder if the big fleet owners - this was Enterprise - get faster service so they can collect the money for the toll authority? Two months to get your bill in the mail seems like a long time for something so "automated."

Building of toll roads by foreign companies seem to be a ongoing trend in the U.S., at least around here.

IIRC there was talk of having a foreign company build a high speed rail service between the DFW Metroplex and San Antonio several years ago - nothing came of it.

I traveled that Toll 2 years back, thinking my bill was closer to $65 dollars. Had a Fleetwood Discovery towing a Honda Civic.

B, who built that new high-speed highway that runs from Austin down to San Antonio? We were in Texas when it opened a year and a half ago, and it hadn't been open but several hours when it had the first accident. "High speed highway" doesn't work so well with "low mentality drivers".

I forgot all about that road since it's South of us here,but I Goggled it and found the following information: it's called State Highway (SH) 130. It was build as a joint venture between a Spanish company named Cintra and San Antonio based Zackery American Infrastructure. It opened 10-24-12 with a 85 MPH speed limit and the first fatal accident on it occurred the same day.

I believe the speed limit is only 5 mph faster than it is on IH-10 from Kerrville to El Paso, Tx.

From what I have heard most of the accidents on that toll road were vehicle / wildlife.

Could be - I know the limit was recently raised to 75 mph on several of our highways.
