Colorado Toll Road E-470

Well the bill for using Colorado’s toll road around Denver came in the mail today. The charge for taking the E-470 to avoid using I-25 through Denver is $47.85. This charge is for driving the entire length of the tollway towing a fifth wheel. I might rethink this route next time. It was nice not having to deal with the Denver traffic though.

Convenience comes with a price- sometimes a hefty one, apparently! My drive from my house to NJ is equally expensive with the tolls and bridges up I-95.

The “naughty boy” in me thinks it would be a good idea to “borrow” the license plate from the trailer stored next to mine for any future trip over that Colorado toll road. I would return the plate when we got back of course. That trailer is only used during the hunting season. Yes I'm a bad boy.

I live there and have since it open, in that time I have only use it once. It just cost to much and easy to take another road.

Sounds like our newest toll road. It's a weird location and expensive to boot. Fortunately, it's only 20 miles or so long so it's "cheap".

Man, at least Jesse James wore a mask and carried a gun! I guess mine will be in the mail this week. I used it on the way to Colorado Springs, but took I-25 through Denver going toward the Tetons. It was really no trouble -- certainly not $47 worth! No wonder they don't post anything about the toll rates along I-470.

Is this a privately build highway or part of the U.S. Interstate system?

Those tolls sounds awfully high.

I believe it was privately built which would explain the high tolls.

Probably so - they are building or proposing several Toll roads around the D/FW area with most being built by foreign companies.

I remember back in the 1960's there was a toll road between Dallas and Fort Worth. When it was proposed for building, the authorities said the tolls would be lifted when the bonds were paid off and they kept their word - that same road is now part of I 30.

It is spendy enough pulling a TT, private toll roads will be avoided to keep costs down.

We have traveled through Denver many times, just plan it for weekends, very early morning or even during lunch time so I-70 is not that bad.

It is not cheap for sure. Luckily most of our camping is in the northern part of the state. Once or twice we head south.

When ever I find myself going thru a major city I do so before 5:00 am local time.

I travel that road often for the ease of traffic and location to my house . It is super expensive but in my case time is money!
I never haul a trailer because it is so expensive. I made that mistake when we moved out here six years ago, lessons learned.

You drive on that toll road and there are not any toll booths - they just send a bill to the license plate about two months later. Mine was about $30 pulling a TT from westbund I-70 north to I-25; maybe ten miles. Last time I do that!

FWIW - I70 through Denver is pretty wide and straight. I25 through Denver is a narrow, weaving construction mess.

But I'd drive both before incurring those tolls!

But but, I love E470 for getting to the Airport from Boulder.

Going from Colorado Springs to Loveland in August we took I25 to I225 to I70 to I270 back to I25. Had no delays at all. Was on a weekday about 11:00 am.

Same thing on the Richmond/Petersburg Turnpike in VA. Old days when that was part of my territory there were 6 (I think) toll booths along the route from South of Petersburg to North of Richmnond (I-95). Probably a 30 mile stretch, an dach booth collected $.25 - Apparently the construction costs were paid off. At any rate, I've driven the road several times since I retired, and there are no longer any tolls. Good for VA - kept its promise!

Wonder if the old nickel bridge in Richmond still collects tolls?
