Colter Bay RV Park

I’ve been working on our trip to Wyoming and Yellowstone NP this year. We’ve decided to stay at the Colter Bay Village RV park for four nights as a base camp for touring and hiking in the Grand Tetons. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that the concessionaire offers a discount to holders of the Interagency Senior Pass. Instead of $60 a night for a big rig full hookup site, the charge was $49 dollars a night. Gotta love that senior pass.

Back in 2004 when we stayed at the Colter Bay park, the Jackson Lake water level was so low that the Colter Bay Marina was closed.

We've stayed at Colter Bay a few times and my BIL used his senior pass.

I just received a confirmation email from Yellowstone Grizzly RV Park for our 11 day stay there. I was tempted to try Buffalo Crossing RV Park since they lowered their daily rate from last year, but I chickened out.

Petunia and I are really excited that we are heading to Yellowstone this year.

When we go to Yellowstone this year there are two things that I want to accomplish, drive the Bear Tooth highway and hike to the top of Mount Washburn.

The first and only time we headed out to drive the Bear Tooth highway was in late August of 2002 a light rain was falling, we had to abort the trip due to snow. It was snowing hard at the upper elevations making the roads too slick to continue. This time nothing is going to stop me.

September 8th of 2002 I unsuccessfully attempted to hike to the top of Mount Washburn. I was too overweight, carried a backpack, and was unprepared for dealing with the lack of oxygen at that elevation. When I gave up the hike I was close to the top but still had 300 feet in elevation gain ahead of me. I just couldn’t continue, I was huffing and puffing so hard I thought my lungs would burst. I can’t say nothing will stop me this time (I am 11 years older) but at least I’m better prepared physically for the hike and know what to expect.
